Universal considers campus for World War II movie site By JACK CONDLIFFE Of the Emerald Representatives of Universal Studios made their second visit to the University Thursday to investigate the campus as a possible s‘*e for the filming of the movie “The Last Converti ble,” a World War II story about five Harvard freshman This campus and the University of Washington campus are being considered, says University Relations Director Muriel Jackson "I was told that the final decision would probably be made later next week," Jackson says Visiting the University for a campus tour were producer Robert O'Neill, art director Howard Johnson and four of the film s back stage crew members Last spring, the campus was the set for National Lampoon's Animal House," which Universal Studios produced If selected, the University would be the set for the first segment of the seven-hour, three segment television adaptation of a novel by Anton Myrer Jackson says the first segment about five Harvard freshman who reside in the same liv ing unit, covers the time from 1941 to the outbreak of World War II Presumably, the remaining segments deal with their experiences in military service, but Jackson notes that she hasn't read the script past seg ment one Jackson says Universal Studios would employ 300 to 400 extras during production, which is expected to begin the week of June 18, regardless of which university campus is chosen She adds that, as in the filming of "Animal House," extras might be required to cut their hair. Jackson says the University has proposed Universal Studios pay $1,000 per day for exterior filming and $1,500 for interior filming She emphasized these figures would be sub ject to negotiation. The University received $20,000 from Universal for the use of the campus to film ‘ Animal House " Jackson requests that students interested in parts as extras not contact her office at this time, since Universal Studios has not made any final decision on the movie s filming site / had sex with my boyfriend for the first time a week ago and it was a real letdown.
