Circus Vargas is an old fashioned Three-Ring Circus which travels from Coast to Coast appearing under the world’s largest Big Top. The performance lasts more than two hours and features flying trapeze artists, foot jugglers, horses, bears, chimps, elephants, lions, acrobats, clowns, high wire artists and an opening produc tion, "The Circus Vargas Grand Entry." The Circus also carries a traditional huge menagerie and Petting Zoo with many of the endangered species. This is the Circus's first time in Oregon. Written by Aristophanes, the story centers around the women's plan to punish Euripides for maligning them in his plays. Euripides gets his son-in-law Mnesilochos (disguised as a woman) to sneak into the festival to plead the case for the poet. Mnesilochos is found out. He and Euripides try to escape by playing scenes from Euripides s plays. Everything is written for the sake of the joke. Much of the literary parody becomes spoofs of familiar musical comedy, Shakespeare, television shows and Tennessee Williams. Song and dance abound. Directed by Marya Bednerik.
