Carnival Theatre. Written by Aristophanes,
the story centers around the women's plan
to punish Euripides for maligning them in
his plays. Euripides gets his son-in-law
Mnesilochos (disguised as a woman) to
sneak into the festival to plead the case for
the poet. Mnesilochos is found out. He and
Euripides try to escape by playing scenes
from Euripides s plays. Everything is written
for the sake of the joke. Much of the literary
parody becomes spoofs of familiar musical
comedy, Shakespeare, television shows
and Tennessee Williams. Song and dance
abound. Directed by Marya Bednerik. Re
servations: 686-4191.
