New Yorker to speak on architecture Suzanne Crowhurst, New School lecturer and research as sistant at the Center for Policy Re search in New York, will speak on The House is a Metaphor, at 8 p.m. Monday, in Room 177, Law rence Hall. The topic for her 12:30 p.m. Tuesday talk in Room 283 Lawr ence Hall, will be The Author as Architect. Both talks are open without charge to the public The speaker s Monday presen tation will focus on the way in which room arrangements, build ing materials and color schemes in a house communicate social and psychological messages Tuesday s talk will explore the same principles by examining specific examples of houses built by authors. Crowhurst has visited and photographed the homes of Carl Jung. Horace Wolpole, Washing ton Irving and Robinson Jeffers. Guest artists Gregory Fowler, baritone, and Jerry Blodgett, pianist, will perform the song cycle Winterreise by Franz Schubert at 8 p.m. Sunday Fowler is a visiting assistant professor of biology and has given voice recitals in Rhode Island, Washington D C. and West Ger many. as well as in Eugene. Blodgett is a student of Marlene Thai of the University s music school and has performed widely on the West Coast Speech leader receives SCA service award A University speech educator has received the Speech Com munication Association s (SCA) highest honor for his contribution to teaching and scholarship Bower Aly, professor emeritus of speech, was presented the Association s distinguished ser vice award at the organization s recent annual convention in Hous ton, Texas ine award recognizes Prof Aly s more than 40 years of ser vice to the field of speech educa tion calling attention to his extra ordinary energy and dedication and . substantial contributions to. scholarship He is currently serving as a visit ing professor at Kent State Uni versity.
