€t a I • * • Teach-in set today Palestine Awareness Week continues with a teach-in planned today for 12:30 p.m. in 167 EMU. The week’s events are a collective effort of many organizations: The Ethiopian Student Union, Eugene Coalition, Free Palestine Commit tee, Gulf Solidarity Committee, Iranian Student Association, Movimiento Estudiantil Popular, Muslim Student Association, Or ganization of Arab Students, and Third World Student Coalition. The focus of “Palestine Aware ness Week " is to present what some view as the Palestinian struggle for self-determination and the regaining of their home land. HRC plans two awards The Eugene Human Rights Commission wants to know about people and organizations in Eugene that have made outstand ing contributions in the field of human rights. The commission plans to recognize one such indi vidual and organization with its annual human rights award, ac cording to Betsy Merck, city human rights specialist. The two awards will be presented at a human rights commission meet ing on Tuesday, February 24. Merck said that criteria for eligi ble award candidates are that the individual or organization be in volved in human rights activities in the community, be committed personally or organizationally to the advancement of human rights, and (if an organization) be an equal opportunity group with a his tory of human rights involvement. The award presentation will come at the last official meeting for the present Eugene Human Rights Commission. A new human rights ordinance abolishes the existing commission as of March 1 and replaces it with four separate commissions on the rights of women, minorities, the handicapped, and the aging. Young, old to share house All young people and senior citizens interested in working with the Gray Panther Inter Generational housing program are invited to attend a special meeting of the Gray Panthers Fri day at 3 p.m. at the Kaufman Senior Center, 996 Jefferson St., Eugene. Under this program young peo ple and seniors would live to gether in a large housing facility near the University of Oregon. Under the program, seniors and young people would rent rooms under the facility leased to the Gray Panthers. Expected monthly rent will be in the range of $80 to $100. It is expected that the facility will be open to seniors and stu dents shortly after the current academic year is over: June 1976. Symposium set Saturday The University Russian and East European Studies Center is sponsoring a symposium on sci entist Andrei Sakharov this Satur day from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The symposium will be held at the Wayne Morse House at 595 Crest Drive in Eugene. Sakharov is a 1975 Nobel Peace Laureate, has served on the Moscow Human Rights Committee, and is the author of several books. A no-host Russian luncheon will be held at the beginning of the symposium, at a cost of S3 for stu dents and $4 for all other in terested people. Business exec to teach honors college class An Iowa insurance executive will spend the month of February teaching a class at the University's Robert D. Clark Hon ors College under a special prog ram co-sponsored by the Institute of Life Insurance and the Univer sity. The executive is Ray E. Cas sell, senior vice-president and secretary of the Bankers Life Company, Des Moines, Iowa. He is a former fellow of the Life Man agement Institute and has been associated with Bankers Life since 1936. Selected last fall as the Institute s Business Executive in Residence for the University. Cassell will spend four-weeks here, serving as a special guest lecturer and resource person He will teach a special course, listed as Honors College 199 and entitled Business Executive in Residence Colloquium: Business and Society." The course will deal with such topics as social insur ance, public policy and risk bear ing activities, the world as a corpo ration, and business for human and social values rather than economic advantage Enrollment in the class is open to matriculated and non matnculated University students The class will meet from 3:30 to 5:20, Mondays and Wednesdays, Feb 2 to Feb. 25.
