Speaking at the Eugene Hotel, Bond said that the major thrust of his campaign will be towards developing solutions to Oregon’s current economic problems. Bond said, if elected, he would I work for reforms which would encourage self-employment, part-time employment, and employment after retirement. Bond also emphasized the need for more state-supported vocational education, and a separate type of health plan with better benefits for state residents. Hunt, Northwest regional director for the Navigators, an in terdenominational Christian campus organization, has served with this group in Singapore, the Midwest, and now in Seattle. Those in terested in knowing more about Christ are invited to come. Karate demonstration to be held A karate demonstration will be held at Mac Court Wednesday at 7:30. Demonstrating goju ryu karate will be Tervo Chinen, head in structor of this style in the U.S. The demonstration is free. AFROTC commandant to visit campus Brig. Gen. Robert White, assigned to Air University as com mandant of Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps, (AFROTC) will be a visitor at the University Tuesday. Gen. White, who is on a tour of Northwestern AFROTC Detach ments, will be at the University from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The first Air Force pilot awarded the rating of winged astronaut for flying the X-15 rocket-powered aircraft at an altitude of 59.6 miles above the earth, 49-year-old Gen. White was also the first man to fly a winged craft six times faster than the speed of sound (3,093 miles an hour). He was systems program director of the F-15 Air Superiority Fighter in 1968-69 and, before assuming command of AFROTC, was Commander of the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards AFB, Calif. j ( COMMUNITY Horse show cancelled The Western Horsemen of Oregon Show scheduled for this weekend at Lane County Fairgrounds has been cancelled. Food stamp certification begins today The food stamp certification center temporarily located at the Wesley Center, 1236 Kincaid, will begin the certification process today at 9 a.m. Information about the food stamp program and applications will be available. Applicants must get all the necessary documen tation and verification before they can see the food stamp certifiers. Jews against fascism correct story Members of the Jews Against Fascism told the Emerald Thursday their press release at a Tuesday press conference stated support for the “Arab peoples” in the Arab-Israeli War. The Emerald reported the group was expressing support for “Arab countries.” JAF members also said the press release did not indicate support for the recent Arab kidnapping of four Austrian persons although they felt that the closing down of the Austrian immigration camp for Russian Jews was a good thing. The Emerald reporter said she received the information indicating support which appeared in a story on page 15 of Wednesday’s Emerald when she asked if they condoned the recent kidnapping and received a reply in the affirmative. If this answer reflected only the opinion an individual in the group and not the JAF the Emerald regrets any inconvenience it may have caused the group members.
