“West Side Story," with its tragic love story set against the violence of teen-aged mobs in the citv opens this weekend. Photos by Calvin Jones The play’s cast includes Alan Kays, Jan Jackson, Steve Borgadine, Larry Sutton, Rich Scheeland, Scott Goodman, Nicola Crafts and Debbie Ettel. ode the emerald's weekly entertainment section ‘West Side Story’ An audience of more than 1700 persons will be on hand Friday for the Lane County Auditorium Association’s ninth annual summer musical, ‘ West Side Story.” Some prominent Oregonians will be part of that opening night crowd: State Treasurer James Redden, Oregon Senate President Jason Boe, Speaker of the House Richard Eymann, the Governor’s administrative assistant Ron Schmidt, Chancellor Roy Lieuallen, Portland Mayor Neill Goldschmidt, Salem Mayor Robert Lindsey and Eugene Mayor Les Anderson. According to director Ed Ragozzino, “The excitement of West Side Story is ready to be shared. It is simply a beautiful, breathtaking show!” A few seats still remain for the opening night performance, with the curtain slated for 8 p.m. at South Eugene High School. Seats are also available for Saturday night and August 2,3,4,8,9,10, and 11 shows. Tickets, at $2.50, $3.50 and $4.50, are available at South Eugene High School, Valley River Meier and Frank, Carl Greve Jeweler, and the Springfield Emporium.
