Editor Torrie McAllister General Manager A1 Phelps Advertising Managei David Jinings [On Campus Women to be admitted to Army ROTC Women will be admitted this fall, for the first time, to the University’s Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps ROTC). Colonel William Burr, professor of military science, announced the army decision Thursday. He said the Army has been conducting tests during the past year, in selected institutions, with women in the ROTC programs, and as a result the decision was made to admit women to the programs in all institutions where the institutional head (president) requested it. . Col Burr said that no major changes will be made in the University’s ROTC program. The women will wear Army WAC uniforms and take the WAC standard basic physical proficiency test. Other than that, they will be treated the same as the men in the program. Women will be eligible for ROTC scholarships as men are. The scholarships cover tuition, textbooks, laboratory fees, phis a $100 a month allowance. Economist to discuss presidential vote William Niskanen, Jr., professor of economics at the Graduate School erf Public Policy, University of California, Berkeley, will discuss “The Impact of Economic and Fiscal Conditions on the Popular Vote for the Presidency,” at 3:30 p.m. today in the EMU. The free public talk will be sponsored by the University Economics Department. Niskanen is one of the “New Political Economists" who have been developing formal theoretical models to explain governmental behavior. He has held positions with the RAND Corporation, the U.S Department of Defense, and the Institute for Defense Analysis. Before his present appointment, he was assistant director of evaluation for the Office of Management and Budget, MEChA to hold elections Tuesday There will be a MEChA meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 5. Elections will be held to elect only a director and secretary for academic year 1973-74. Room will be posted in the EMU. ( Community ' Noted musicians to lead summer workshop Two talented musicians of national acclaim will highlight the Division of Continuing Education’s (DCE) Haystack summer workshop program at Cannon Beach during the month of June. Ralph Matesky, Director of Bands and String Education at Utah State University, will kick off the Haystack music workshop series with a 6-day String Workshop beginning June 11. Matesky will lead a 6 day Orchestra Workshop the following week, beginning June 18. The other new talent is Frank Bencriscutto, Director of Bands at the University of Minnesota, who will teach a 6-day Band Workshop beginning June 25. All Haystack music courses carry two quarter hours of graduate or undergraduate credit. Tuition is 175.00 per course. Classes meet Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., and Saturday til] noon. Late afternoon and evenings will be free for recreation, en sembles and informal discussions. Veterans Job Fair Saturday at Fairgrounds Lane County’s unemployed veterans will have a chance to meet with some 50 local employers Saturday, at the second annual Jobs Fair at the fairgrounds. The fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Pioneer building. The Jobs Fair, sponsored by the National Alliance of Businessmen and the state employment service, will provide latest job information, interviews and job counseling by mare than 50 private employers and 10 public agencies. Some agencies included in the fair are Lane Community College, which will install a Career Information System computer, the Veterans Administration, state and federal civil ser vice, and the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training. Ken Weaver, an NAB representative and a coordinator for the event, said the fair is designed primarily to provide information and help for unemployed veterans, but most employers will also have job application forms available. NAB officials estimate there are 2,000 out-of-work veterans in Lane County. Last year’s fair attracted more than 1,500 veterans. Dellenback to hold open office on campus EUGENE, OREGON — Congressman John Dellenback will hold open office hours this afternoon at his Eugene office at 163 E. 12th Street. Interested individuals or small groups wishing to speak briefly with the Congressman are invited to be at his office between 4:45 and 6:15 p.m Appointments will not be made in advance, but rather on a first come, first served basis. The time for each conference will be kept short in order to accomodate as many people as possible. At 2:30 this afternoon, Dellenback will be at the EMU to listen to student concerns and answer questions. The room will be posted. At 9:30 Saturday morning, Dellenback will make the opening remarks at the National Alliance of Businessmen’s Veterans Job Fair at the Lane County Fairgrounds. Sunday afternoon, the Congressman will deliver the Com mencement address at the Lane Community College graduation exercises. The ceremony will begin at 3 p.m.. following a 2 p.m. concert.
