Schaub tapped for ASUO post; * * , JL s Don elected new SAB chairer A new ASUO administrative assistant and an interim chairer of the Student Administrative Board (SAB(have been named, according to ASUO vice president Fred Loveys. Bill Schaub, a political science major, has been appointed ASUO chief administrative assistant, Loveys announced Friday. Schaub will replace Tim Travis in the position. Loveys said that Schaub “will enhance the credibility of the executive branch because he’s known to the administration through other offices he has held.” Schaub was president of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, president of the Inter-Fraternity Council (IFC),anda member of the ASUO Cabinet. He also helped to manage Sen. Mark Hatfield’s campaign on this campus. Schaub has proven his administrative ability and has shown an appreciation of fiscal management, Loveys said. He added that Schaub was chosen partly because he is familiar with the ASUO, “but not sullied by the political atmosphere. He doesn’t owe anybody anything.” In a move to expedite the replacement of Ellen Delay, former chairer of the ASUO Student Ad ministrative Board (SAB), Mary Don was elected interim chairer in a SAB meeting Friday, Loveys said. Under the direction of Don, a committee will interview applicants for the position of chairman and make recommendations to the Executive. The Senate will make the final decision on their choice. Loveys said that Delay, whose salary was frozen on Feb. 1 because she lost her student status, has continued to occupy the SAB office since her dismissal. He added that Delay had “dominated and mismanaged” the Board and had procrastinated in arranging procedures for choosing her replacement. When asked why White Bird put out the magazine, Rand Herrick, spokesman for the publication replied, “We thought is was time we started com municating with the community on a regular basis, we usually wait until there is some kind of an emergency.” There were other motives for creating the quarterly journal, “we want to help keep the public informed about health care today and to provide a format for free exchange qf opinions, ideas and information about health care.” said Herrick. “We also want to use the journal to keep people alive to the needs of White Bird”, he added. Although the debt on the building’s rent, about $1,200, has been paid, '‘there is still next month’s and we’re still a com munity agent and we stiU need money”, he stressed. The money to pay for the journal originally came from a foundation grant, “some rich New York family,” as Herricks explained, of about $3,000, most of which is gang towards the making of a documentary movie on the clinic. “The people in charge of the movie allotted $375 to be used in terms of the media, so we used it to start the journal,” he said. He also said the journal hopes for more community par ticipation. “We could use more volunteers, people experienced in photography, journalism, artistic layouts, and we could always use more money and material.” Another aspect of the periodical that he hopes people will take part in is a write-in column. Dr. Cohn, who’s ser vices are committed to White Bird for one year, will answer personal health worries, serious, embarrassing or funny.
