Presented by George Skeie WINTER ENGAGEMENT While the spring of the year is the time-honored period of love and engagements the winter months are a close rival for the announce ment of betrothals. One reason might be the emphasis on social galas and holiday parties. In our own community, many of our love liest young ladfes will soon he showing their diamond engage ment rings to friends and relatives. Since the engagement diamond draws attention to the hand, it should be selected with the si/e and shape of the wearer'- hand in mind. For example, a small ring tends to over emphasize the larger hand. If a fairly large ring is de sired by the girl with a dainty hand, a dome-shaped ring, or one with the *tone set high, may be most Incoming. An oblong ring looks very at tractive on a hand with short fin gers. A setting which runs across the finger will cut the length of a long, narrow hand. \ very popular cut of diamond for shorter or thicker fingers i> the marquise. named after an elegant woman. Marquise de Monte-pan. who was the mistress of Louis XIV. She ordered the crown jeweler to cut her ring diamond- with a point at each end like a boat.
