Job Corps Plan
The University School of Ed
ucation is offering a program
for credit at the Tongue Point
Job Corps Center in Astoria.
Called the Tongue Point Ex
change Program, this Operation
Citizenship venture offers stu
dents a chance to become ac
quainted with Job Corps and
Tongue Point women on a one
to-one basis.
Tongue Point is operated by
the University under a contract
with the Office of Economic Op
portunity. Oldest Job Corps
center in the nation in terms
of continuous operation, the
center was changed from a men's
to a women's facility in 1967.
It is anticipated that the stu
dents in the Tongue Point pro
gram will work closely with the
corpswomen's student govern
ment organization in planning
joint programs.
All programs will be planned
jointly between University and
center participants. It is an
ticipated that the corpswomen
will make visitations to the
campus from time to time and
that students will visit Tongue
Point for special functions.
In order to make more stu
dents aware of Tongue Point
and the exchange program, a
table will be set up on the EMU
terrace Wednesday.
Information about the center
will be available and interest
ed students may sign up to par
ticipate in the exchange pro
gram.

WINTER ENGAGEMENT
While the spring of the year is
the time-honored period of love and
engagements the winter months
are a close rival for the announce
ment of betrothals. One reason
might be the emphasis on social
galas and holiday parties. In our
own community, many of our love
liest young ladfes will soon he
showing their diamond engage
ment rings to friends and relatives.
Since the engagement diamond
draws attention to the hand, it
should be selected with the si/e
and shape of the wearer'- hand in
mind. For example, a small ring
tends to over emphasize the larger
hand. If a fairly large ring is de
sired by the girl with a dainty
hand, a dome-shaped ring, or one
with the *tone set high, may be
most Incoming.
An oblong ring looks very at
tractive on a hand with short fin
gers. A setting which runs across
the finger will cut the length of a
long, narrow hand. \ very popular
cut of diamond for shorter or
thicker fingers i> the marquise.
named after an elegant woman.
Marquise de Monte-pan. who was
the mistress of Louis XIV. She
ordered the crown jeweler to cut
her ring diamond- with a point at
each end like a boat. This cut be
came popular -ince it gives the
hands a graceful, tapered appear
ance. If you are diamond ring -hop
ping, let us show you the varoius
diamond cuts and give you our sug
gestions on the right style for you.
