Speakers Boast Trophies ■*y w/iiiilkk i;ivi;ks Or tlii' Km I* riil il l.ast Friday and Saturday at the 11th annual Oregon Foren sic Tournament, the Univer sity as host school won eight of the 10 available trophies award ed in the Individual competition events. Thirty-nine schools from Ore gon, Washington, Idaho, Cali fornia and Nevada participated in the tournament held in the KMU. About 450 students from 40 to 90 colleges and universities in the six states participated. Scott Nobles, University speech coach, was the director of the two-day weekend tournament. Speakers and debaters com peted in five events — debate, extemporaneous and expository speaking, oratory, and oral in terpretation of literature. Adams was, as Wentz put it, "ex ercising his presidential prero gative by not showing up. for which he is to be highly com mended.’' SWINE prefers inactive offi cers. Most of its members are in active, too—five of the 91 mem bers came to the meeting. SWINE also discussed pos sible satirical publications. Ten tative titles arc "Rampots,” "The New Porker,” and “Plowboy.” Noting that most other groups today have a militant faction, SWINE felt it should have something similar. The "Bacon Brigade” is now recruiting vol unteers. Individual events were held under extemporaneous, exposi tory, oratory and oral interpre tation speaking. There were two divisions: junior (men and women) and senior (men and women). The results of Oregon partici pants in the different individual divisions were as follows, ex pository: Sue Tungate first in junior women’s, Becky Nobles second in senior women’s, Joe Dean second in junior men's, Ron Kilby first in senior men’s. In the oratory section Kath leen Umreim won second and Virginia Bailey was third among junior women, Bob Cor so was first in junior men’s, and John Eads first in the senior Film Presents Raft Ocean Trips A color film of two voyages across the Pacific Ocean, entitled Kantuta—in the Wake of Kon Tiki," will be presented in 150 Science at 8 p.m. tonight. The historic voyages from Peru to Polynesia were under taken by Eduard Ingris in a balsa log raft in support of Thor Heyerdahl, who sought to prove that such journeys were made by the Incas of ancient Peru to originally settle the Polynesian Islands. The film, which is personally narrated by Ingris and his wife, Nina Ingris, describes the first voyage from its origin in the Andes to rescue by the U.S. Navy from a giant whirlpool. The second voyage includes scenes of storms and raft life and the successful landing on Matahiva island. Background music by Ingris incorporates themes inspired by his travels. Tickets, available at the door, are SI for adults and 50 cents for students. The showing is sponsored by the Social Division of the Erb Memorial Union.
