Grant to Finance Center Activities and services focused on programs and educational practices for exceptional children will be carried on in the new center to be established at the University under a $186,814 grant from the U.S. Office of Education. The new Regional Special Edu cation Instructional Materials Center, to be developed within the Psychological Services Divi sion of the School of Education, will be directed by Melton C. Mar tinson, assistant professor of edu cation. A projected five-year funding period has been established for the center, according to Martin son. The first year’s grant of $186, 814 covers the period from June 1, 1966, through May 31, 1967. he said. Serving the state of Oregon. Washington. Idaho. Montana. Alaska, and Hawaii, the center will be a base for a range of activities and services having broad impact on programs and educational practices for children with problems of mental retarda tion, social and emotional dis SU Sponsors Oregon Trips University summer trips spon sored by the Student Union are now available to students, ac cording to Alice Kaseberg, assis tant program director of the SU. An excursion to the Oregon coast scheduled for July 10 will be the first trip. Bus transportation will be used to convey students to Honevman State Park. Sea Lion Caves, and other points of interest along the coast. Sign-up deadline is July 7 and the trips costs are $5. Fees may be paid at the main desk in the SU. It will provide broad training, research, and service potential for training programs at the Univer sity; field and in-service activi ties at the regional, state, and lo cal levels; and support for col leges and universities in the re gional area.
