I did not expect the Emerald's editorial endorsement, as we hold differing viewpoints on our basic philosophies of student government. However, I like wise did not expect a libelous and unsubstantiated blasting of my own reputation and those of others mentioned in the column, as this only gives me more evi dence with which to pursue my Emerald reforms, ro those who voted for me and support my platform, I pledge to 1) write for and do research on political party sys terns used at other colleges with the goal of experimenting next year with types suitable for our rainpua environment to attempt to solve student apathy, 2) do: as a senator whatever I can to begin again the Student Com inittee on Higher Education, .'it through legislation, strength i n and broaden the purpose of the Student Political Union, and 4) to pursue and accomplish the Emerald reforms which I advo rated in rny platform. It is in regards to this last pledge that I make my chal lenge. I challenge the Emerald editorial board itself to work with me in providing for better means thru which students can express their constructive eri ticisms of the paper. 1 further challenge the students to rally their support and their energies behind my attempts at reform. 1 hope to establish a student Emerald evaluation poll and to legislate an a p p e a 1 s board through which students and groups can protest with evidence I when their character or reputa tion is attacked unfairly by the Emerald To accomplish these I will need the full co-operation and overt support of the student body.
