Campus CARE Plans Folk Fest Plans for a Folk Fest were made at the Campus CARE meet ing Jan. 17. The Folk Fest will be held from 8 p.m. to 10 p m Friday, Feb. 4 Its purpose is to raise money to send food to In dia’s twelve million hungry peo ple. The program will include folk singers, instrumentalists on re corders, piano and guitar, the University Folk Dancers, and hopefully, performances by in ternational students. There will be no admission charge. Contributions will be ac cepted during and after the Fest. India is now facing droughts and possible famine. According to recent reports in the Eugene Register Guard, twelve million of India's people are in “dire dis tress” and one hundred million people are expected to be af Campus CARE hopes to raise enough money to send over a few tons of food. Job Corps Program Dismal' Says Green PORTLAND (AP)—Rep. Editl Green. D-Ore.. was quoted ii the Oregon Journal today as say ing the Job Corps program "is > dismal program of what migh be a Great Society.” A news story by Tom Stimme of the Journal’s Washingtoi service says the Job Corps ha failed to enlist enough girls — only 1.490 in the country. "Whei you consider that there are hal a million girls alone eligible fo the program I'd say this was ; pretty dismal failure,” she said Mrs. Green said that t h i Tongue Point Job Corps Center which is operated by the Univer sity, had a dropout rate of 65 pe cent, having had a top enrollmen of 1,200 boys but only some 45( now. At Astoria, the Job Corps hai figures which differed with Mrs Green's. The center said its to] 11 enrollment was 562 in June, and 11 that the current enrollment was ; - 476. It also said that of 1,236 i youths who have entered the i program, 533 have either dropped out voluntarily or been ■ asked to leave. That does not in clude a number who have joined 1 the armed forces. The center said that a recent , Office of Economic Opportunity r report showed that as of Dec. 1. . the Tongue Point center was rated , No. 1 in what the report called "holding power" among eight ur ban centers.
