The federal government is pay ing for two-thirds of the east campus work, with the city pay ing one-third. A third project is underway at the University Physical Plant. Preliminary piping is being in stalled for a water cooling facility to air condition campus buildings. Portland Artist Exhibits Work Paintings that range from por traits to landscapes are in the' collection, ‘'Paintings by Sally: Merriman,” now on exhibition in ] the Museum of Art. The Portland artist, Sally Mer riman, is primarily a portrait painter. She has turned to land scape painting as a relief from portraiture and has found that her landscapes have a positive effect on her approach to por trait paintings. The freedom of brushstroke which she allows herself in landscape paintings and studies help to keep her from "freezing” her approach to each individual portrait into a tightly regimented style. Hours at the museum for the fall season are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Friday, Sat urday and Sunday. The museum is closed Monday.
