German Author, Critic Sets Lecture Tonight Hans E Holthusen, director of the West German Government's Cultural Center in New York (the Goethe House), will be a Festival of Arts speaker at the University tonight An author and critic. Holthusen will speak on “New Directions in Modern German Literature: Gun ther Crass and Uwe Johnson” at 8 p m. in the Student Union. The son of a German minister, Holthusen began his career as a freelance writer in Munich. Since then his achievements have in eluded the Prize for Culture from the city of Kiel in 1956. He is a member of the Academy of Arts in Berlin, where he once served as director of the literary section He also is a member of the Ba varian Academy of Fine Arts. Since February, 1961, he ha.' served as director of the German American Cultural Institute ir New York. He has been a visiting lecturei IRL Meeting To Draw 600 Some 600 high school student; will meet at the University for the seventeenth annual confer ence of the Oregon High School International Relations League Feb. 28-29. A model meeting of the Euro pean Economic Community will be held by the students and ap proximately 100 teacher-adviser; from 75 high schools of the state. The conference will be pat terned on a meeting of the Eu ropean Economic Community Students will debate and nego tiate economic and political issup£ involved in the United Kingdom's application for membership in the Common Market. The International Relation; league program was started ir 1948 to encourage interest in in ternational affairs. Charles P Schleicher, professor of political science at the University, directed the program for the first ten years. Direction is now handled by the Institute of International Studies and Overseas Administration which is expanding activities through the aid of a Ford Foun dation grant. LeRoy E Graymer, instructoi of political science at the Univer sity, is the executive secretary for IRL. The new president of I’anhellenic told the Vanguard she "sees no reason why the sor orities should not be allowed to participate." Millar told the Vanguard that the national presidents of PSC’s chapters have not replied to the letter he sent to them requesting clasiftcation of “their plans for action" at PSC. “I don't expect an immediate reply," he said. "They will prob ably confer with one another be fore replying." The I’anhellenlc president said the national presdients have not instructed the local chapters to alter the plan "to set up a self operating type" of Panhcllenic office.
