II.IN To the bride the wedding is among the most treasured events of her life Young girls speculate on what they want their wedding to be like. They look forward with great anticipation to the day they are married and of the beau tiful wedding they will have. YEARS after the wedding wo men like to recall the wedding day and how p o fret everything was Women form definite ideas about weddin and stress the Importance if a proper wedding ceremony. But. what do men think about the wedding cere mony'.’ Do they form ideas about their wedding as women do? One groom to b" .dated thr.t the man does not thin'< of the wed ding ceremonv itself when he is first engaged and that it is usual ly the woman who brings up the question about the ceremony. Men wilt j>o along with whatever kind of ceremony the bnd > wants to have and are content to leave the decision up to her MANY MEN s* to »hn* they pre fer a small wedding Tlvnr basic reason for this is that thev want to get all of the fuss and bother of the wedding over as ouickly ns possible. Some men think that the wedding preparations are strictly for mothers and daugh ters. Among those men with more radical viewpoints, some prefer to leave all friends and relatives out. of the wedding and elooe. If you ask a man what kind of cere mony he likes, chances are that he will say he prefers either a small, simple end quick ceremony or to elope. Some men say that the groom is the neglected member of the wedding. Through all of the wed ding, preparations and ceremony all attention is focused on the bride. In the yveeks before the wedding there are showers and parties for the bride. THE GROOM is excluded from all of these and suffers a period of neglect. When the time finally comes for the groom's one last fling at his bachelor party, what does he get but words of warning about how not to drink too much and other “words of wisdom" con cerning his conduct from the bride and family After the ceremony, one always hears comments on how beautiful the bride is. There are usually few comments on how handsome the groom looked. In the months before the wed ding, the man is usually in favor oj the wedding. As things get more involved and busy, however, h? gels more concerned and de veloped a negative altitude about the whole affair. SOON the groom gets detached from the wedding preparations because his part is so small. Men admit, however, that it is the groom who is more unset before the ceremony. At this time he may feel like he has no one to turn to because the bride is busy and he cannot divulge his feelings to his friends. Regardless of whether the wed ding is large or small, the groom docs have definite responsibilities in the wedding preparation. Ac cording to Emily Post, the man is always expected to take care of the expanse of the marriage li ce ns , (he wedding ring and the clergyman’s fee. SHE GOES on to say that the groom is also expected to pur chase a wedding present for the bride, pay for the bachelor dinner if he gives one, purchase the bride's bouquet, give a personal gift to his best man and ushers and purchase the wedding ties and boutonieres for the best man. Thus, ironically, the groom’s role in the wedding becomes ob vious when he reaches for his wallet. Nuptial Dress Varies for Men By CANDY HEMMING Probably one of the reasons men dislike large, formal wed dings so much is the way they are required to dress. The bridegroom at a formal morning or afternoon wedding wears a cut-away with grey striped pants, grey vest, a wing collar with an ascot or cravat in black and white, black shoes and socks, grey gloves, and a nigh silk hat. IF THE wedding takes place during the summer, the bride groom wears the same attire, but the vest, spats, and gloves are white. For a formal evening wedding (after 7 p.m.) the bridegroom wears a tail coat, as do all the other men in the wedding party. When the groom wears formal day or evening clothes his father and the bride’s father dress the same, as do all other men in the wedding party. .nen guests ai a aayume tor mal wedding may wear cut-aways or sack coats with striped pants. It is permissable for guests to wear dark suits. At a formal eve ning wedding men related to the couple wear a white tie. Other guests may wear dark suits. FOR AN informal morning or afternoon wedding when the bride wears a veil, the bridegroom wears an Oxford grey coat, striped pants, a white shirt, grey tie, black shoes and socks, and a black or grey hat. His attendants dress the same. If the bride doesn’t wear a veil, the bridegroom and his party wear dark business suits, white shirts, conservative ties, and der bies or Homburgs. In the summer they may wear Palm Beach suits, light socks, and white shoes. For the smaller, less formal evening weddings the bridegroom and his party may wear dinner jackets. If the bride wears street clothes for an evening wedding the bridegroom wears a dark suit; if she wears a dinner dress the bridegroom wears a tuxedo. FOR A civil ceremony the bridegroom and his witness wear dark business suits. All the men in the wedding party wear boutonnieres, but the bridegroom’s is different from those of the rest. It is usually a gardenia or spray of lilies of-the valley, traditionally taken from the bridal bouquet. Honymoon Tips The groom is expected to make all the plans for a honeymoon but in case a couple is planning to go out of the country for their trip they should both remember to check their passports and obtain the proper innoculations. MEN ARE AFFECTED by changes in fashion daring the spring just as noticably as are women. The plaid, lightweight jacket is good for only-slightly-formal wear, such as dining out or small parties. This one has a straight cut and is slightly shorter (for warmer weather) than most suit jackets. One thing all brides-to-be should consider is their grace in the wedding gown Most women worry about how they will look on the wedding da\ and so experiment with hair styles and make-up. Few realize, however, that posture and grace also determine how a bride looks. A woman may have good posture normally, but if she is unused to wearing a long, trailing and often heavy dress this could affect her walk I* ! a good idea to have several dress rehearsals of the wedding within the privacy of one’s home 3rida!
