"As far as I can see this kind of argument is very petty,” said Judy Wyers, married students’ representative. She referred to Vertrce’s examples of alleged ir responsibility. “THERE ARE other ways for the Senate to act in this matter,” she said. “I’m sorry that the ASUO Senate is so responsive to the Emerald as a paper.” Brothers said that he did not believe that the Emerald editor could Ik* expected to be respon sible for every story printed in the paper because of the nature of the operation of the publi cation. “Every time you read the Ore gonian or the Register-Guard or any of the papers you see a box expressing regret at some error that has appeared,” Brothers con tinued. Gordon Zimmerman, fraternity representative, said that the gen eral principle to discuss was the damage Emerald publicity had done to the fraternity system. “When a fraternity acts irre sponsibly it is put on probation When the Emerald editor or the paper acts irresponsibily some action also should be taken,” he said. “I DON’T THINK it is a ques tion of censoring the editor,” Mc Call said. “All we can do is make a recommendation.” “We want more responsibility in the Emerald’s editorial pol icy,” he declared. Goldschmidt, who gave up the presiding chair to the vice presi dent, said that the Sena!! should vote for the Vertrees motion only if it believes that it has the right to censor the press and only if the Senate really believes that the Emerald acted in an irrespon ible manner.” “ASUO Graduate Senator Ver trees sat in my office and stated that he had information at his disposal about the hazing mat ter,” Goldschimdt said. “As far as I know this information has not been made available. “The Emerald did write one editorial that was out of line They went a little too far a little too hurriedly, but they have ad mitted their error there,” he said. There will be 2 a m. closing hours for the dance. Closing hours are extended until 2 a m. with a penny-a-minute charge after 1 am. All those selling tickets for their living organization must turn in money or unsold tickets before 5 p.m. today to the YWCA office. Tickets may also be pur chased at the door.
