Hfntz Heads New Library P:an American Library Association has released a national plan for library education. It will be under the direction of the Library Edu cation Division, of which Carl W. Hints. University librarian, is president. HINT? SAID, referring to the plan, that it should result in "identification, clarification, and publication of the objectives of library education, not as static, but as seif-repairing goals of a vital, dynamic profession." In be formulation and implica tion of the plan, all agencies will promote library education Perry D. Morrision. acting librarian, said that "this is crucial because there is a shortage oi librarian-..’’ The need for the plan was re commended by the Institute on the Future of Library Education April, 19c2. in Cleveland. Ohio. The Institute recommended that the American Library Associa tion assume : expansibility for de v.v.ping a sound and flexible plan. AMONG THE objectives of a national plan, Iiin*e has listed rec ognition of the role of education for librarianship, extension of -knowledge about this field through research and publication, and implementation of guidelines at all levels of education for li brarianship, pre-service and in sendee. The only things the ticket will not cover are transportation and lodging. Bernstein said transpor tation would be provided if there was enough demand for it.
