Phi Kappa Psi (Ait.) x a^v. x « ▼ v* First in Northwest i ■ UO Swimming Club Sponsors Diving Championships Saturday About 30 divers from Oregon and Washington will be here Sat urday to participate in the first annual diving championships and diving clinic sponsored by the Oregon Dolphin Swimming Club. DON VAN ROHSEN, UO swim ming coach, said Thursday that he expected participants from the Cascade Swimming Club and Red Shield Swim Club, both from Se attle, Wash.; the Lane County YMCA-VWCA, Eugene; and the Grants Pass Swim Club, Grants Pass, as well as swimmers from the University. The Oregon coach emphasized that this is one of the first such clinics sponsored in the North west. The event is one of several Dolphin Club projects intended to raise swimming and diving stand ards and interest, he added. Five age groups will be compet ing in the championships: 10 and under, 11 and 12, 13 and 14, 15 17, and senior division. Only Uni versity swimmers will be partic ipating in the senior division. The clinic phase of the one day program is to include a series oi talks using charts, loop films and movies of national diving champions. VanRossen noted that divers will be judged on a ten-point scale. After scoring each partic ipant, the judges will explain for the benefit of Doth the audience and the diver why he received the number of points he did. This is designed to help the partici pants improve. Anyone interested in watching the diving events or the clinic has been invited to attend. There is no admission charge.
