DORM WOMEN HONORED AWS awards, scholarships go to outstanding women Awards to outstanding women students and a near-record amount of scholarship money were presented at the annual AWS Awards assembly Monday. Included In the awards were certificates for the outstanding women in the fields of speech, drama, art, leadership and schol arship. City Pan Hellenic scholarships, in honor of Marjorie Thompson Reynolds, who was active in that organiza tion, were presented to DyAnnc Schneider and Virginia Curtis. Sophomore women receiving cultural awards from AWS in cluded Judy Hawley, speech; and Karen Mickelson. Juniors wen Matjolaine Grant, art; Carol Minor, speech, and Mrs. Lanra Spray, music. ROTC presents student awards The University military tie partment recently named a sei les of award winners. All are stii dents in the Air Force ROTC programs. Awards are presentee on the basis of outstanding achievement in both academic and leadership areas. Winners and their awards in clude: George K. Hemphill, sen ior achievement award; Galen K Shorak, sophomore achievement award; David Winn, freshman achievement award; Quentin Holmes, Convuir award; Donald Tonole. Reserve Officers Associa tion award of merit. Others are William Cook. Sons of the American Revolution award; Charles Mitchelmore, Air Force Association silver medal; Charles Cowan and Tho mas Moreland, Reserve Officers Association award of merit, and Floyd Hargrove, junior achieve ment award. These awards will be presented during the ceremonies of the joint Army-Air Force ROTC Graduation Review May 29 at Hayward Field. The ceremony will be open to the public. The General Don Zimmerman squadron of the Arnold Air So ciety, advanced AFROTC cadets honorary, recently held elections. Donald Metz was elected squad ron commander. Sharon Purdue received the Hazel Schwering scholarship, and the list of women receiving state tuition awards for the coming year was read. (Continued from fere one) Phil "Buck" Knight, vice presi dent of the Order of the O, said that "very few of the girls ob jected seriously" to the dunkings. He said the matter will be dis co. sed soon at a meeting of the club. Knight said that, while he thought improvements could be made in enforcement of the tra ditions, if "you have traditions at all they should be enforced.” Two University administrative officials were dismayed at Order of the O action. A. L. Kllingson, director of the Student Union, said "it's time someone says there is no enforce ment of traditions on this campus at all .., they (the lettermen i are just ‘grabbing girls’." Dean of Men Kay Hawk ex pressed his concern over the inci dents and asked for student ac tion on the matter.
