Morse Offered 'Gift' Position Compiled by Andy Salmins From the Wires of the Associated Press (Al’)—Oregon's Senator Wayne Morse has told The Ore >’onian in a telephone interview Monday that he was offered a n},di position in public life,” indicating that it would have been 1 exchange for his support of Eisenhower, the Republican pres '■ ntial candidate. Morse refused to name the post, but said hat he will produce documentary evidence when he returns io (fregon after the election to support his claim that he re ceived the offer. Morse said that or his return he will deliver a talk en titled: “Now it can be told.” He said last week that he will vote for the Democratic presidential nominee. Governor Stev enson, but he announced today that he will remain a Republi can and will seek the GOP renomination for the senate. ■Morse declared during the in terview: "The behind-the-sccne re presentations made to me by the Eisenhower crowd convinced me they would stoop to anything to gain victory. The people of the state of Oregon are entitled to know what kind of dealing the Ei enhoWer people have been do ing." Morse said also that there was a rumor that he has been off ered the post general counsel for the CIO. Eisenhower, the Republican presidential candidate, blasted angrily his opponents dur ing his tour through the North east. “I believe that corruption in government is not something to shrugged off. That Is why this scandal - a - day administration stands before the country dis credited,” said Eisenhower. He charged that the opposition is spreading lies and poison and cried: “I get to the point where I get too angry to speak. You speak for me on November 4.” He said also that he had been accused of being anti-Semitic and anti-Catholic, and contin ued: ‘‘Thank goodness I got such friends as Cardinal Spellman, Uabbi Silver, and Bernard Ba ruch to answer those lies in a hurry.” His running mate, Senator Nix on of California, denied in a speech Monday charges that Eisenhower is not master of his own campaign. ‘Stevenson is not running. Truman and Aeheson are running Steven son. They've got a ring in his nose,” said the vice-presidential candidate earlier. * * Kenya Rebels Against British </P)—A rebellion has broken out in the British East African colony Kenya and Britain is rushing troops to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, where martial law has been declared. Mail Man, a secret native so ciety, is pillaging and killing in a campaign to drive out the Brit ish. During the night the rebels burned the swanky white polo club in Nairobi. The British, afraid of a repeti tion of what is happening in Ma laya, landed 12 planes with troops in Nairobi and are sending the cruiser Kenya to the colony. « * * Adlai Attacks Eisenhower, Taft (•'Pi—The Democratic standard bearer, Adlai Stevenson, told his audience in Springfield, Illinois, that Eisenhower is going around saying one thing, but that Sen ator Taft is assuring the country that Eisenhower really means something else. “While the galaxy of political followers ride off in all direc tions with the General strug gling mightily to keep from fall ing off the thrashing elephant, the expediency of it all Is show ing through—no policy, no pro gram, and no real faith in the future in America,” said Steven son.
