Morse Offered
'Gift' Position
Compiled by Andy Salmins
From the Wires of the Associated Press
(Al’)—Oregon's Senator Wayne Morse has told The Ore
>’onian in a telephone interview Monday that he was offered a
n},di position in public life,” indicating that it would have been
1 exchange for his support of Eisenhower, the Republican pres
'■ ntial candidate. Morse refused to name the post, but said
hat he will produce documentary evidence when he returns
io (fregon after the election to support his claim that he re
ceived the offer.
Morse said that or his return he will deliver a talk en
titled: “Now it can be told.” He said last week that he will
vote for the Democratic presidential nominee. Governor Stev
enson, but he announced today that he will remain a Republi
can and will seek the GOP renomination for the senate.
■Morse declared during the in
terview: "The behind-the-sccne re
presentations made to me by the
Eisenhower crowd convinced me
they would stoop to anything to
gain victory. The people of the
state of Oregon are entitled to
know what kind of dealing the
Ei enhoWer people have been do
ing." Morse said also that there
was a rumor that he has been off
ered the post general counsel for
the CIO. The senator called these
rumors "typical of the kind of
sn ear tactics my reactionary op
ponents have been spreading about
me for years."

shrugged off. That Is why this
scandal - a - day administration
stands before the country dis

He charged that the opposition
is spreading lies and poison and

friends as Cardinal Spellman,

His running mate, Senator Nix

Adlai Attacks
Eisenhower, Taft
(•'Pi—The Democratic standard
bearer, Adlai Stevenson, told his
audience in Springfield, Illinois,
that Eisenhower is going around
saying one thing, but that Sen
ator Taft is assuring the country
that Eisenhower really means
something else.
“While the galaxy of political
followers ride off in all direc
tions with the General strug

the expediency of it all Is show

future in America,” said Steven
