In ‘other encounters, Sigma hall fell to Phi Sigma Kappa 6-0, 'while Stan Ray hall spilled - Sherry Ross 18-0. The Delta Upsilon squad won via forfeit when Stitzer hall failed to show i llP ^ * Sammies Cop . , A1 Cohen’s passing and Bud Alper's receiving sparked the Sigma Alpha Mu seven to a four first down to one victory over Phi Gamma Delta. A lateral from Cohen-to-Alper to-Lou Spitz accounted for one of the Sam’s first downs and a twen ty-yard toss from Cohen to Alper for another. Don Warneke played hero for the Phi Sigma Kappa team when he snatched Bob Glasgow's pass and scored the only touchdown of the tilt. Stan Ray Smothers Sherry Ross Scoring in three out of four quarters, Stan Ray hall defeated Sherry Ross hall 18-0. Bill Arnold was the 'Van Brock lin’ of the Stan Ray squad when he showed his passing skill by com pleting three for touchdowns. Passing again was the highlight of IM football when Jim Crakes threw a long one to Bill Davis to win the game for Lambda Chi Al pha over Westminster House, 7-0. Delta Tau Delta shut-out Nes tor hall by passing to a 14-0 win. DUCK* TRACKS . By GLENN GILLESPIE „ Emerald Sports Editor j , Johnny McKay, Oregon lefthalf who was slightly injured in the Idaho game, continues to lead Jim Aiken’s football ground gainers in the individual rushing statistics compiled by the Ath ’ letic News Bureau. The 170-pound junior carried the ball 21 times against the Vandals to gain 156 yards, a 7.4 average per try. This Idaho yardage boosted his total net to 385 yards in four games. McKay /1 BILL BURGHER | has carried 56 times for the best I per-carry average on the squad, I 6.9 yards. i Ken Maine and Bob Easter | both have higher averages, but | have carried the ball only two 1 and four times respectively. Righthalf George Bell con tinues to be the most-used back in the Duck model T. 1 Bell had 19 tries against Ida ho and gained 99 yards, for a | 5.2 average. This brought his total net to 269 yards in four * games. In 61 runs Bell has averaged 4.4 yards per try. -bob banders has boomed for 166 yards from his fullback spot, to put him in third place. Sanders has carried 39 times for a 4.2 -average. Alternate Lefthalf Woodley Lewis carried the ball 11 times •against Idaho, bringing his total carries to 19 for 105 yards. He * has lost 10 yards from scrimmage, so has 95 net for an even 5 yards per-carry average. r These four men represent a backfield ground unit that stacks * up with any in the Pacific Coast conference, and with a quarter | -back like Norm Van Brocklin to call signals and throw passes, \ what more could a coach ask for? i Of the total 1035 yards the Oregon team has made from [' rushing, these four backs have 914 to their credit. r As a team, the Ducks have gained 1119 yards rushing and lost 84 for that 1035 net. Coupled with the 415 yards from pass t -ing. the Ducks have a total net yardage of 1450, as compared to I j 835 for their four opponents. All-Coast End Dan Garza has replaced McKay as the leading C^YVebfoot pass receiver. Garza has grabbed eight passes for 83 j yards and one touchdown. Hal Saltz I man, performed for the Beavers in the final weeks of the season. Burgher is still under a Beaver contract, and has returned to school for a degree. First Basketball Drills Monday Duck basketball followers will have their first official opportun ity to see prospective members of Oregon’s 1948-49 basketball team in action next week. The first practice for Pacific Coast conference member teams is scheduled to begin Monday afternoon.
