Star Leieht, Star Bright Expected to be the big offensive noise in the Wobfoot backfield is All-American Lightnin’ Jake Leieht. Oregon’s diminutive 1945 all-star choice, has completely recovered from an early season injury and has been pronounced ready for action by Webfoot Trainer Tom Hughes. Aiding Leicht in Oregon offensive hoop-la will be Jim Newquist, Bobby Reynolds, Bob Koch and George Bell. Handy Newquist has been the Duck workhorse with fine showings as a passer, punter and place-kicker deluxe. Reynolds has been used as a climax runner by Coach Tex Oli ver this season. Koch, a firte plunger, takes care of the punting duties at the fullback post. Bell has been getting in his licks as a pass re ceiver. Iverson, Duke of Blockers Clearing the way for the Duck scat-backs will be Quarterback Duke Iversen. Iversen has been one of the most consistent and impressive blockers in Oregon grid history. Many tab him as a fine choice for a spot on Coast all-star teams. Leading the Bruin line, which averages 213 pounds per man, will be End Burr Baldwin and Center Don Paul. Baldwin, a really great flank er, has been chosen by an Associated Press poll as lineman of the week twice this season. A 196 pound two-year letterman, he does all things well. Paul Anchors the Uclan line that has thus far held six opposing teams to a meagi'e aver age of 92 yards per game. Standouts in the Oregon line will be Center Brad Ecklund and a pair of sturdy guards, Ted Meland and Bill Murphy. Ecklund, a rangy lad, shines defensively as Webfoot line-backer. Me land and Murphy, a pair of rock-em-sock-em guys, have played consistent ball. Listed as doubtful starters will be Duck ends Hymie Harris and Wayne Bartholemy. Both men are suffering from leg injuries that may keep them out of action. Bartholemy injured his leg in the Oregon-Trojan tussle and Harris is hobbling from a practice injury. BERKELEY, Cal., Nov. 6—(UP)—Coach Frank Wickhorst today named a starting back field of Ted Kenfield and Jack Jensen at half hacks; Tim Main at full and boots Erb or Dick Erickson for California in their Saturday battle against USC. In the line will be Cunningham and Groefsma at ends; Sockolov and Turner, tackles; Franz and Dodds, guards, and Pieper at center. CORVALLTS, Ore., Nov. 7—(UP) Thr!ee Oregon State backfield men were being es pecially groomed today for OSC s conference game here this Saturday with the University of Idaho Vandals. The trio consisted of Don Camp bell, '45 letterman, Bob Laidlaw, Los Angeles freshman, and Bert. Allinger, hard charging full back. The Beaver coaching staff said the tluec had looked especially impressive in workouts recently and they would see considerable service against the Vandals. L.OS ANGELES. Nov. 7.— (UP)—After two days of scrimmaging, Coach Jeff Cravath today eased off his strenuous workouts for the Southern California Trojans and sent them through a light drill. End Tony Linehan was promoted to the var sity from the freshman squad when doctors re ported second string end Don Hardy may not be able to play against California Saturday because of a cold. Don Garlin, left halfbek, ws also feared out of the game because of a knee injury. MOSCOW, Ida., Nov. 7. (UP)- The Univer sity of Idaho Vandals went through a light prac tice today and then entrained for Corvallis where they will play the Oregon State college team Sat urday. The OSC contest will be Idaho’s last chance for a conference victory this season. PULLMAN, Wash., Nov. 7. -Coach Phil Sorboe today sent his injury-ridden squad through a rough two-hour session which was hampered by cold weather and rain. With an open date this weekend, Sorboe concen trated on fundamentals in preparation for the game at Palo Alto against Stanford November 19. RENO, Nov., Nov. 7 (UP) Nevada Coach Jim Aiken spent most of his afternoon scrimmage today trying to cure the Nevadans of over-con fidence against-Santa Barbara here Saturday. Aiken warned the high-scoring Nevadans that the visitors have a 208-pound line and the “fastest back on the west coast" in Mcl Patton. Oliver-coached teams have beaten the Uclans twice, and UCLA has emerged victorious over Oliver’s teams three times. Th 1946 sason is the sixth and last at Oregon for the veteran coach. He announced last month that he has chosen to explore other fields, hut has no definite plans.
