Blossom Motif Leads For Spring Dances By PHYLLIS FOSTER, Society Editor After two weekends of campus dances, this weekend moves to the living organizations’ spring formals and radio dances. With so many dances Friday and Saturday nights, most of the evening will probably be spent going from house to house hearing all of the orchestras. Friday night Phi Sigma Kappa is having Art Holman’s band playing for their “penthouse” theme. Ray Dickson's band will provide swine for the Phi Delta Theta formal at the Osburn hotel. Phi Kappa Psi is having its first spring for mal in their new house with Ed die Gipson’s orchestra. Spring flowers will be the background for Hal Harden’s orchestra at the Delta Delta Delta spring formal. The freshmen of Kappa Kappa Gamma are keeping their dance a secret from everyone except Wally Heidert’s orchestra. Big Saturday Night Saturday surpasses Friday for social functions—Sigma Kappa is having a formal dinner dance at the Eugene hotel with Jack McCarty’s rhythm. Honeymoon hotel is the theme for the Kappa Alpha Theta spring term dance, and Fred Beardsley will sing out in hotel fashion. The Delta Gam ma freshmen are keeping their dance as well as the orchestra a secret. Another secret theme will be disclosed at the Gamma Phi Beta house dance when Tub Brown’s melodies echo along the P 1 FOR JUNIOR WEEKEND FESTIVITIES Show your mother a gay time in a gay hat from the Bonnet Nook 9.07 Willamette xi FUR SrORAGE I Your Furs Will Arrive in Time If you call right now your furs will be in time to keep them safe from summer - time m o t h s, theft, dirt, d u s t, and loss! Flower Bright Skirts, Jerkins Replace Glamor Broomstick skirts with white blouses take the place of sweat ers and skirts as the Oregon coed prepares for warm weather. These popular full-gathered skirts are being worn in vivid-colored material. Stripes, bold flower de signs, plaids and polka dots pre sent variety in print design. The louder the color the more men to be attracted is the theme of the new fad. Direct from the navy are the styles of the nautical looking slack and other sports toggery so handy for picnics and days at the beach, or for canoeing or ten nis. Seersucker again looms in the foreground as one of the popular materials for playclothes. More dressy are the jerkins with matching or contrasting skirts of plain or plaid light W'eight wool. Varied crisp pastel blouses brighten up a plain beige outfit. Glamour and sophistication are being laid aside for the spring term house dances and youthfully simple or soft frilly cotton for mals are replacing them in the coed’s wardrobe. —Corinne Wignes . -- ~ Patter The music school sounds like a building that is having its heart torn out. Someone is holding a cup of tunes upside down and letting the notes spill down and drop on a rattling tin eave while someone else is tying knots in a sound wave like scallops or pictures of ocean waves with points and someone else is chasing an elusive tone higher higher higher and higher and the notes are running every which way like crazy little hunted things. The music building suffers. But its roof is still on and the WPA workers stand in the soft earth they are digging outside and curse quietly. —Pat Erickson. This Week One sunny day this week the pink flowers in Madeline Chin’s hair made the most exquisite pic ture on the campus. Like the puff of a fresh spring breeze was Marcia Wright in a fluffy white angora sweater. A perky blue bow hobbled atop Edie Bush’s dark hair and matched the color of her eyes. Beverly Tobin was tailored to perfection in a good - enough - to - eat cinnamon brown mannish jacket. W’inifred Wilhelm was as feminine as a Southern belle with two delicate pink rosebuds tucked into her brown curls. Betty Kel ler’s clear blue and pink plaid skirt was simply luscious. Two blue and white angels flitted down from heaven and landed on Mary Failing’s powder blue suit lapel. Phi Delta Epsilon, national honorary collegiate journalism fraternity, will install its thirty fourth active chapter at the Uni versity of Texas. Just What Constitutes A Picnic, Asks Toad By JOEY CHRYSTALL “Toad, do you realize that you have been breaking rules right and left around here for some time?” Toad retrieved the piece of orange peeling she had aimed at the waste basket. “Daphne it is a rank misinterpretation to call my practice at marksmanship carelessness.” She resumed her former position, aimed again, and missed again. “Even you must see that it takes long practice to be good at anything. Rome was not built in a day.” ‘‘I am not referring tc your carpeting of the floor with or ange peeling. Where were you yesterday afternoon?” “Oh, I was going to tell you about that picnic. Honestly, Daff, it was more fun. In the first place, we ran out of gas. . . .” “You did not register your pic nic.” A great, blinding light dawned on Toad. “OH, you mean THOSE rules. I think you haven’t been the same since we heard about the latest in picnic rules. Look, I will gladly obey rules I under stand. My reaction is just one of confusion.” Daphne fixed her teeth firmly on the bait. “A child of three could understand those rules on its head. They’re quite simple What in particular don’t you un derstand ?” “When does a date become a picnic ?” This was simple. "When it is in the woods.’’ “All right. How many trees constitute a woods?” “Oh . . . uh . . .»« ' “Would you say three is a good round number?” Toad saw that Daphne was about to come to the surface again, so she contin ued hastily. “And would you please tell me the percentage in registering, so that I have to be in at 9 o’colck; whereas if I don’t, I can stay out until 12:15?” “Well, you might have a phone call. . . Daphne looked ha* rassed. Toad breathed deeply. “Locate me within three hours someplace on the McKenzie,” she stated fer vently, “ and I will agree to reg ister every time I go out to mail a letter.” DON’T “MUSS” YOUR HAIR FOR YOUR HAT Have a hair style de signed especially for the hat silhouette you want to wear!
