Newspaper Page Text1 i--..:: ' JOE HOWELL, son of Mr. ond Mrs. J. L. Howell, has joined that distinguished fraternity of scouters who have earned scouting's highest honor for boys, the Eagle award. The youth received the badge in ceremonies staged Wednesday night ot the Court house. Mayor Thomas Garrison made the presenta tion. Above, Howell displays the badge. His uniform is adorned with merit badges which. were earned as various scouting projects and assignments were com pleted. Twenty-one merit bodges are required for Eagle rank eligibility. Howell, o Roseburg High School student, has been a member of Roseburg Lions Club Troop 92 since November of 1958. In order to qualify fur consid eration in Who's Who, a senior must have at least a 3.00 grade point average and must have been of service to the college The candidates are selected Iby the student-faculty advisory committee, after which, their names are sent to the national headquarters for approval. Mrs. Withnell is an English and literature major with a 3.52 UPA. fouglas High GAAers ravel To Eagle Point Eight Douglas High girls raveled to Eagle Point to par- icipate in the GAA state con ference recently. They arrived at Eagle Point p-'riday night and spent the light in the school gym. After ireakfast Saturday they altend- i meetings on how to promote iAA activities. A banquet was held at noon md after the banquet the girls rvatched demonstrations of gym- lastics and modern dancing. they arrived home Saturday vening. Jackson Todays Youth Linfield Pupils Hall Counselors Nancy Erickson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LcKoy Landers, 747 SE Rice Avenue, and Walt Edmonds, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Edmonds, Rt. 2, Box 1926, both of Roseburg, arc among Linfield College students who have been appointed residence hall counselors by the dean of men or the. dean of women. Miss Erickson is the resid ence hall counselor at Grover Hall; Edmonds is a residence hall counselor at Hewitt Hall. Those students assist head residents and officers of the halls in the governing of the halls. They also work closely with their respective dean. They are available to assist students with college problems and are particularly busy in helping freshmen and other new students adjust to college life. Elkton Class Travels To Springfield Skate The Elkton Junior II i g h School class traveled by bus Saturday evening 'to Springfield to a skating party. Mr. Vern Clemo drove the bus with 22 students of the Junior High School Sunday school of the Christian Church. Chaperones were Mrs. Vein Clemo, Mrs. Allen Blake and Mrs. Wade Henderer. Elkton Sets Comedy The Elkton High School sen ior class play will be held Fri day, November 22 at 7:30 at the High school gym. Name of the Comedy play is "Custards Last Stand."
