Mrs. Reese Conrad and Mrs. Tom Campbell of Seattle, Wash, were weekend visitors at the Joe Campbell home., Mr. and Mrs. James Hartman and family of Empire spent the weekend visiting Mrs. Hart man's mother, Mable Linch. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Finnell re turned this week from Tumaco, Columbia, S.A. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Wittel spent the weekend at Eureka and Ar eata, Calif., visiting the homes of their sons, Sam and Warren and getting acquainted with their new granddaughter, Ter esa Gay, who is 10 days old, The new baby is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Wit zcl. Set Portland Show Mr. . and Mrs. Roy Haldcman were weekend visitors at the home of his mother, Susan Hal derman, in Portland. Claus on and family of Tiller have rcceivd word that the former's father, William Clauson, is hos pitalized in Davenport, Iowa, for treatment of an apparent heart ailment. Ho became ill only a week after the elder Clauson had returned to their home following a two-week vis it with the Robert Clauson fam ily at the Tiller Rrngcr Station. It was the third visit to Til ler for the elder Clausons since their son was transferred to Til ler to become assistant ranger of the South Umpqua district. Visits to historic points of in- Concert Policy Set In Glendale The Glendale School Board met in regular session Wednes day with new superintendent, Ben Huntington, In attendance. The meeting was short and de voted mostly to routine busi ness, according to Mrs. Gerald Fox, correspondent. , Following a discussion on the charging of admission to school concerts, the board decided that all such concerts should bo free to encourage full community at tendance. Approval was given for Wayne Close, industrial arts teacher, to attend the Industrial Arts Conference which was held in Roseburg over the weekend and for Paul Schimp to attend a for eign language conference to be held In Gearhart Nov. 15-17 The board will meet next on Nov. 20. Jacobscn, 33, a San Francisco auto mechanic, was arrested Tuesday for trespass ing on the Golden Gate Bridge, although both driving and walk ing are permitted on the span, The California Highway Pa trol said Jacobscn trespassed because he climaxed a night on the town by sleeping on a glid er of tho bridge about 100 feet ahovo the ground. Birthplace It Visited A visit to Orcna, Idaho, birth place of Ira B. Poole, was one of the highlights of a recent motor trip enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Poole in company with Mrs, Poole's brother and sister- in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Ham lin of Canyonvillc. In addition to stops in Washington and Ida ho to visit friends and relatives, they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hamlin at Madras and of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin R, Hamlin of Salt Lake City, Utah Both Frank and Edwin Hamlin are brothers of John Hamlin and Mrs. Poole, and formerly resided in Douglas County. Highway Project Due SALEM (UPI) - The Stale Highway Commission recently announced plans to reconstruct the 4.1-mile Coyote Crcck-Gravo Creek section of t h o Pacific Highway in Southern Oregon. Ihe proposed construction will transform the existing two-lane highway into a four-lane divided freeway meeting federal inter state standards. The National Grange starts a nine day meeting Monday. About 1,500 delegates are ex pected. The Pacific Marine Fisheries Commission begins a four -day meeting Tuesday. Some 150 per sons are due. The Oregon School Board As sociation opens a three-day con vention with about 600 delegates Wednesday. The Holstuin Friesian Associa tion starts a two-day regional convention of some 50 persons Friday. Another 100 delegates are ex pected when the Credit Women of the Northwest open a two- day meeting Saturday. Bond Sales In County Gain Over Last Year Sales of U.S. savings bonds in Douglas County are running far ahead of 1962, according to a report from the U.S. Treas ury Department. During the month .of October, the sales figure was $54,362, as compared to $45,062 in the same month of 1002. This raised the year's total to $051,041 for the year, almost $80,000 above the 1962 total at the end of Octo ber, $573,437. The same trend was noted in the rest of the stale where sales for the year now stand at $29, 839,495, up more than $2 mil lion.
