(UPI Telephoto) Florida A&M Rated No. 1; Linfield 11 Draws Support NEW YORK (UPI) Florida A&M, paced by "world's fastest human," Bob Hayes, was rated the No. 1 small college football team in the nation today by the United Press International board of coaches for the second consec utive week. However, Northern Illinois, which moved up to second, and third-ranked Delaware received more first-place votes than .the Rattlers and cut the Florida team's point lead nearly in half since the preceding week. There were no new entries to Torres Wins Close Battle Over Fullmer TEANECK, N. J. (UPI Middleweights Jose Torres and Don Fullmer will meet in a re turn match, promoter Murray Goodman announced today, be cause Torres' victory Wednesday night was so close. . "Date of the 10-round bout will depend upon whether it is held at the New York Coliseum, or at Salt Lake City or here at the Teaneck Armory again," Good man explained. Slugger Torres of Puerto Rico won the referee's decision Wednesday night before about 2,500 in the Armory. There are no boxing judges in New Jersey. Referee Joey Harrison gave five rounds to Torres, two to Fulmcr of West Jordan, Utah, and called three even. Torres weighed 161 pounds; Fullmer, 158. Ex - middleweight champion Gene Fullmer, 32-year-old brother of 24-year-old Don, was in Don's corner Wednesday night along with their manager Marv Jenson. There were no knockdowns. Torres stalked forward constantly and tried to nail Don with close quarter hooks, while Don concen trated on long range counter punching. At the finish Don's nose was bleeding and Jose had a cut on the bridge of his nose. the top 10, but there was quite a bit of shuffling. Texas AJtl jumped from eighth to fourth and drew five first-place ballots. Montana State moved from sixth to fifth, San Diego State. from seventh to sixth and Witten berg, from a ninth place tie to seventh. Lenoir Rhyne, the only team in the top 10 beaten last weekend, fell from fourth to eighth, Central Oklahoma dropped four notches to ninth and East Carolina . slipped from a ninth place tic to 10th. Tennessee Tech led the "sec ond 10" in 11th spot, followed by East Central Oklahoma, South Dakota State, Massachusetts, and San Francisco State. St. John's (Minn.) and Western Kentucky tied for 16th, Central Michigan was 18th and Linfield (Ore.), McNcesc State (La.) and Fresno State deadlocked for 19th. Simons Signs Pact With Edmonton Eskimos EDMONTON, Alta. (UPI) C, B. Simons, former Stanford line man from Roseburg, Ore., Wed nesday was signed by the Edmon ton Eskimos of the Canadian League. Simons was dropped by the Denver Broncos of the American Football League recently. LOS ANGELES (UPI) UCLA 1 hopes Syracuse University's sec ond trip westward this season will prove to be another upsetting experience Friday night. A fired-up Kansas team upset the powerful Orangemen 10-0 when- Ben Schwartzwalder's team ventured into Lawrence, Kan., but Syracuse manhandled two vis iting opponents from Massachu settsBoston College 32-21 and Holy Cross 48-0. Bruin assistant coach Dick Mansperger said, "This is anoth er typical Syracuse football team. It will be the strongest team physically we'll face all year a big and mobile line with a tank like backfield." However, UCLA has improved steadily since dropping its first two games against Pitt and Penn State, and then winning 10-9 over Stanford last week. A crew- of sophomores are be coming mainstays for UCLA with their play. Bob Richardson, who doubles' up as flanker back and defensive halfback, intercepted a Stanford pass and raced 35 yards to the Indian five-yard line to set up a touchdown. Other sophs making impressive showings are Jim Colletto at fullback, Kurt Al- tenDurg at left end and Russ Ban ducci at right guard. LOS ANGELES (UPI) The University of Southern California squad leaves International Air port Friday morning for Indiana and the Saturday clash with No tre Dame. Notre Dame, which lost 25-0 last year to the Trojans, has two close, defeats on its record this season. The Irish lost their open er 14-9 to Wisconsin and were edged 7-6 by state rival Purdue University. USC got a lift from Hal Bed sqle's smooth pass receiving . in practice Wednesday. The tower ing end dropped some key passes in USC's only loss of the year, a 17-12 defeat by Oklahoma. Included on the traveling squad is end Fred Hill who had missed the previous games because of a sprameu Dack suffered in a pre season workout. STANFORD, Calif. (UPI) Stanford ' defensive back Jim Shroyer, who injured a knee Tuesday, will not play Saturday night against the Rice Owls at Houston. However, coach John Ralston said today end Bob Howard, side lined with the flu, will make the trip. STOCKTON, Calif. Tackles Don Shackelford and Belinsky Inks Contract With Angels For '64 LOS ANGELES (UPI) Un predictable hurler Bo Belinsky of the Los Angeles Angeis contin ued to live up to his character and became one of the first ma jor leaguers to sign his 1964 sea son contract. The sophomore southpaw, who compiled a 2-9 won-lost record last season with . the Angels and spent part of the season in minor league "exile," telephoned Angel General Manager Fred Haney for an appointment Wednesday and promptly inked next year's pact. The signing served to nip any talk of trading the erratic pitcher and came only three days after the end of the World Series. Sutherlin Junior High . Hosts Riddle Gridders Fresh from a double victory in the season's openers, the Sutherlin Junior High Terriers will make their first apper.rance before home fans tonight when they entertain Riddle in a Junior UVL league game. The seventh grade contest will start at 6:30 p.m. Last week the 7th grade Sutherlin team carried on the tradition of last year's unscored-upon club as they defeated Myrtle Creek, 6-0 in a hard-fought battle. Out-numbered 2 to 1 on the bench, the junior Ter riers put up a stubborn defense and took advantage of the breaks to win. Steve Putman swept left end for eight yards to score the only touchdown of the game. The 8th grade Terriers had to come from behind to keep from suffering defeat. Myrtle Creek broke a scoreless deadlock in the third quarter with a 60-yard scor ing burst. The Sutherlin team came to life and tied the score on a similar long run down the side lines by Dave Vassar. With the score tied, a fourth quar ter pass from Rex Groner to Dan ny Cluzel set up the winning Ter rier touchdown with Vassar again packnig the mail over the pay-off stripe. Quarterback Larry Waller rammed home the extra point to give the Terriers a 13-6 victory margin. The Terriers now hold the league ld in both the 7th and 8th grade divisions, but will receive a stiff test in tonight's battles with Rid dle, reports correspondent Mrs. William Blakeley. ' - A spokesman said the Beaver coaching staff feels the Husky game will be the toughest of the season. MOSCOW, Idaho (UPI) Soph omore guard Jerry Cambell has been placed on the doubtful list by Idaho coach Dee Andros for this Saturday's game - with the University of Oregon. ' - Cambell, who moved up to the first string only Tuesday, was out Wednesday with an injured knee. Andros said linebacker Dick Lit zinger has also been nursing a bad leg and is doubtful. The Beavers hard fought victory over Baylor, coming in the final 28 seconds, marked Lcroy Whittle, Dan Espalm and Ron Doman as heroes. Whittle gained 95 yards rushing, and it was Espalin who caught the winning touchdown pass Doman led the line play that held the Bears to 125 yards rushing.
