Newspaper Page Text'Mother In Highest Form' By ABIGAIL VANBUREN DEAR ABBY: Regarding the let ter from 1 "MOTHER OF FIVE" who took you to task for calling a woman with a prefabricated fam ily a "mother in the highest form:" She asks, "What does a woman who has adopted four children know about the joy of first learning she is to bear a child?. What does she know about the beauty of carrying a child under, her heart? What does she know about the thrill of hearing a 'child's first cry?" I would like to answer, her, Abby: I have known the joy of first learning that I was. to bear child five times, only to lose them all near the end of hiy time. I even had the thrill onCe of. hearing my child's first cry, only to- be told three hours latei" that I had lost her, top. But I did experience the fulfillment of motherhood because, thanks to an adoption agency, we were "blessed" with three healthy, beautiful, well-mannered, well-adjusted and loving children. We could not; love them more if they had been born to us. PLEASE CALL ME "MOTHER" DEAR "MOTHER:" To the adop tion agency goes the credit for "blessing" you with healthy, beau tiful children. But they btcame well-adjusted, well-mannered and loving because of you. DEAR ABBY: I am a boy who is going to be 15 soon. I have a boy friend my age. One day I went over to his house when he was home alone. He told me to walk in, so of course I did. He shocked me. He was all dressed up in his MOTHER'S clotlies! He said, "Take a look at me." Then he said it was "fun," and I should get dressed up in ladies' clothes, too. I said, "Drop dead if that's all you have to do in your spare time. I will see you later." I walk . ed out of the house. I am wonder ing now is he sick? What should I do about it? I'm sure his parents don't know. I Am all shook up over it. GEORGE MUNSON Calvin Henry and his son, Bill, have returned to Umpqua from Sacramento, Calif., where they were guests at the home of anoth er son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Scott Henry. While there the group went on a fishing trip and packed 18 miles back to Emigrant Lake in the high Sierras. Word was received from Klam ath Falls by Mrs. Robert Monelt recently, of the death of her brother-in-law, Ray Gibson. He had been a frequent visitor in this area for several years. Miss Theresa Long, daughter of Roy Long, is returning to her home in Eugene after spending several weeks of her vacation at the home of her grandmother, Mrs. Will Long, on her ranch near Umpqua. Mr. and Mrs. John Bacon and Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Miller drove to Winchester Bay on Monday where they enjoyed tile day. Mrs. Al Lounsouiy, Donna and Carolyn from Coquille spent sev eral days with the former's pur ents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bacon, recently. A tour of Europe is currently being enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Ar thur Malley. Mrs. Malley is the former Sharon Roadman, daughter of the Ted Roadmans of Umpqua. Formerly of Pasadena, Calif., the Malleys, who left the United States in July, plan to return early in September. They will reside in Portland where Malley will in struct and do research at the Pri mate Center. Mrs. Malley plans to teach in the Portland urea. 21 5?J! If they tried to drop the queen of hearts they would lose. A really good player would fig ure out that he could make the hand if West held the queen of hearts and East the ten. The odds would be against this, but' at least it would be his best chance. When South played hearts he would start by leading the jack from his own hand. If West ducked he would let the jack ride. If West covered he would win with dummy's king and finesse against East's ten of hearts. Either way his opponents would be in the soup. nine. East takes the third diamond i with the ace and leads the ten of clubs. West's queen farces dum my's ace and you play two rounds of trumps. West discards the jack of diamonds on the second trump. So far you haven't had to do any thinking, but if you want to make this contract you have to find the way to avoid the loss of a heart trick. Most players would try a few rounds of trumps, lead a nearc 10 dummy s ace and finesse the jack on the way back. West would take his queen and the hand would go down the drain.
