Message To A Widow Of Viet Nam Fighter EDITORS' NOTE: Tht official record states that Capt. Con don Hunter Terry, U.S. Air Force, was killed June 27, with his Vietnamese pilot during i strafing run against Communist rebels in Viet Nam. This is e message to his widow In Dallas. By ROBERT C. The enemy ground fire that downed his plane June 27 appar ently killed him and his Vietna mese pilot instantly. Bar ry Goldwater, R-Ariz., have been invited by the Columbia Broad casting System (CBS) to exchange their views in a television debate. Richard S. Salant, president of CBS News, sent telegrams to the two Republicans Tuesday, offer ing them an hour of air' time on July 24, Aug. 7 or Aug. 21. A spokesman said today the network has not received reolies from either Rockefeller or Gold- water. - In extending the invitation, Sa lant suggested the debate center on "appropriate policies and direc tions for the Republican party in 1964." Simmering dissension within the GOP burst to the surface last Sunday when Rockefeller warned that the "radical right lunatic branch" might all but destroy the party. Some of your well meaning friends have probably told you it was a shame Connie had to come y ay over here and fight and die in this nasty mess without even having the satisfaction he was fighting an officially recognized war. Mavbe it was a shame. Audrev. but lots of women know it wasn't any easier having their men killed in the 'official" war of the for ties or the "police action" of the fifties. The blow is just as stupi fying; the grief just as terrible. And Connie died fighting a war, Audrey, a war just as important as Korea, the ETO, or the Pacific. Maybe it is a shadow war. mav be the homburged diplomats have their reasons for insisting that Connie was here merely as an "adviser." That's unimportant. The important thing was Connie Knew wny he was here, what he was doing and why he was doing it it was his duty and his job and he did it well. If you're confused, Audrey, about Connie's being here, think of Le Hoai Son's family. He was Connie's pilot and died with him when their T28 crashed during Thursday's strafing run. He was killed by one of his own countrymen mayDe even a rela tive in this fighting which has been going on in Viet Nam for more than 15 years. Wars are like that, Audrey. Remember we had one of our own in the 1860's. The thing to remember in your hours of grief, Audrey, is what his fellow pilots in the First Air Commando Group thought of Con nie. They all came to the little green chapel in Saigon for the memorial service, white and col ored, lieutenants, colonels, corpo rals and PFCs some in sun tan khakies and some in slacks. And even though Connie had been over there only a month, they enjoyed him as a friend, respected him as a pilot and admired him as a man. Tractor Mishap Claims Brothers KLAMATH FALLS (UPI) Two teen-age brothers drowned when a tractor on which they were rid ing overturned into an irrigation canal 12 miles southest of here Tuesday.
