Oakers Top Trojans, Irish In Oakland Wrestle Action The host Oakland Oakers emerg ed victorious over the Douglas Tro jans and the Riddle Irish Satur day in three-way mat duel. The Oakers totaled 39 points, followed by the Trojans with 29 and the Irish with 14. Oakland's points came on four pins, five de cisions and two draws. Da ve Terry Frost Helps 'Chill' Drain Cagers Drain's Warriors were unable to stop Oakridge's Terry Frost as the visitors romped to a 74-51 win in Emerald League action Saturday at Drain. Frost pumped in 25 points to 'lead the Oakridge Warriors to the Victory. Oakridge took a 15-8 lead in the first quarter, and went on to hold a 29-21 edge at halftime. At the three-quarter mark the winners were on top, 48-34, then broke loose to outclass Drain, 26-17, in the final eight minutes of play. Cool Led Drain While Frost was the big-gun for Oakridge, Drain's attack was led by Ran Cool. Cool had 14 points for me game. The loss leaves Drain a 2 4 sec ond half record in Emerald League play with one game remaining. In the first half of conference action the Warriors ended with a 4-4 mark. Pleasant Hill, the winner of the first half, has at least a tie for the second half clinched after Saturday' 82-38 win over Central. Linn. Oakridge's Jayvees emerged vie torious by a 61-38 count in Satur day's prelim at Drain. Joe Sorscth hit for 13 points for the winners, and Graham Derbyshire led Drain with nine points. Douglas Hands Oakland Cagers 50-40 Setback Jumping off to a comfortable lead in the first quarter, the Doug las Trojans went on to hand the invading Oakland Oakers a 50-40 setback in non-league hoop ac tion Saturday. Martins off at a deadly pace. the Trojans built up a 24-9 lead in the first quarter as Archie Walker hit for nine points and Dan Dodd bucketed eight. From that point on the Trojans were nev er seriously threatened. Coach El mer Schweitzer used all his re serves. The halftime count favored the winners, 30-18, and at the three- quarter mark Douglas was in front, 42 34. In the last eight min utes the winners took an 8-6 ad vantage. Press Used Douglas used press in the first quarter which flustered the Oakers. While the Oakers were having trouble breaking through the press, the Trojans were tally ing the points. Dodd was the top scorer of the game as he ended with 17 points. Bill Fredricks led the Oakers with a game total of 14. The jayvee action saw the home team swamp the visiting all-freshman Oakland squad, 41-12. Terry Ptersen of Douglas was high for the game with eight points. Douglas will return to Umpqua Valley League competition this weekend with crucial games against Glide and Sutherlin. The victory vaulted the Wildcats into a second place tie with Suth erlin in the current UVL standings. Glide and Sutherlin have identical 5-3 league records. Glendale now has a 2-7 mark and is tied with Riddle for fifth place. Shooting at a deadly 46 per cent clip during the first half, the Pi rates moved in front, 17-10, by the end of the first quarter, and late in the half held a 13-point ad vantage. However, the Wildcats started the comeback shortly be fore halftime and had cut the lead to seven, 37-30, by the midpoint Deadlock Outscoring the home ant win. Coplin hit for nine points in the final stanza, while Cellers bucketed six. Coplin took the point honors with 17, followed by Cellers' 16. Glendale's Carl Burke took the game honors as he sank nine field goals and three free throws for 21 points. Charles Fox collected 15 points. Glide's Jayvees won the prelim inary contest 58 24 as Wade Sump tor pumped in 16 points. Nick Der- scheid's 12 points was high for Glendale.
