Gildersleeve was born in Iowa in 1885 and came to Oregon in 1922 and had a form four miles east of Sutherlin. He came to Rose burg in 1938 to work. for . the Farm . Bureau. He has been retired for the past few .years. He and his present wife reside at 356 SE Fowler. Gildersleeve is in excellent, health and enjoys doing light yard work and watching television. Annual Speech Contest Set For Feb. 15 At Bart's Cafe Camas Valley Toastmistress Club met Thursday at Bart's Cafe, with the president, Mrs. James Combs, presiding and giving the invocation. Mrs. Kenneth Bright was induct ed into membership by Mrs. James Bartley. Mrs. Ross Halter man was a guest. Topic mistress Mrs. Dave Thrush asked members to give a description of the member sitting on their left hand side. Mrs. Jess McMasters, chairman of the annual speech contest, an nounced the contest will be held at Bart's Cafe Feb. 15 and the dinner meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. Reservations may be made by contacting Mrs. Thrush. Mrs. McMasters, toastmistress, presented the speakers for the eve ning. The theme, "An Historical Event,'" was used by speakers, Mrs. Leslie Catchpole, Mrs. Louis l'rvor, and Mrs. Alva Bartley. Mrs. Cyril Deffcrding was time- Becky Martin Honored . . On Birthday Anniversary Beck v Martin. 3-year old daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Martin, celebrated her birthday at a party at Days Creek. Games were play ed and won by Doug Lewellen, Kay Martin, and Heidi VanLeeu wen. After Becky opened her gifts, luncheon was served to Chris Cook, Johnny Kline, Kay Martin. Mrs. Combs gave the closing thought. Red, white and blue table mats, with arrangements using the U.S. Flag, centered the tables. The head table had an arrangement carrying out the Washington's Birthday theme. Decorations had been done by Mrs. Neal. Granddaughters Feted At Party Mrs. Laura Barclay entertained Saturday afternoon at a charming party honoring the birthdays of her granddaughters, Laura ana Debbie Oliger. Michelle Olieer, et der sister of the honorees, had charge of the games and prizes. Another sister. Patricia, served the refreshments which included a dec orated birthday cake. Those attending were Terri and Deobie ttlair, vicKi ana uonna Ben edict, Tommy Annis, Barbara Bath rick. Mike Eater, Gail Gosnell Donny Kramb. Joyce Proctor, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Foltz, Mrs. Wayne Eddings, Matt Lane, Mrs. Ann Brooks and the honorees and the hostess. Terri Blair, Barbara Bathrick, Gail Gosnell and Donny Kramb won game prizes. . Days Creek Girl Feted At Party On Saturday Nancy VanLeeuwen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Art VanLeeuwen. of Days -Creek, celebrated her 10th birthday at a party Saturday at the home of her parents. After games were played and Nancy opened her gifts, delicious refreshments were served to Kathy and Sally White, Kathy Welch, Del ores Stone, Debbie Halstead, Lyn eve Swingley, Sandra VanLeeuwen and the guest of honor. Beta lota Enjoys Bridge Sessions Beta Iota of Epsilon Sigma Al pha held its last two meetings at the lovely homes ot Mrs. Kich ard Mann and Mrs. Don Josh. Bridge lessons were conducted at each of the sessions by Mrs. Mor ns Bowker. Taking part were Mrs. Jack Mathis, Mrs. Charles Bailey, Mrs. Kenneth Smith, Mrs. Don Josh, Mrs. Bob Bashford, Mrs; Dick Ber ney, Mrs. Dolph Boyer, Mrs. Don Rogan. Mrs. Mike Wooton, Mrs. Gib Hallett, Mrs. Floyd Irwin, Mrs. Dick Mann, Mrs. Bob Wilson, Mrs. Don Kruse, Mrs. Joe Sinko and Mrs. Bill Madson. Refreshments were enjoyed. Luncheon Given Mrs. Thomas Pargetcr entertain ed at a luncheon recently at a workshop of the Visually Handicap ped held at her home in Melrose. Vera Thompson of Portland, a member of the State Blind Com mission, conducted the session held from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Mrs. E. R. Buckingham and Mrs. Walt Watkins assisted Mrs. Parteger in serving the luncheon. Days Creek Church Scene Of Lovely Shower Party A lovely pink and blue shower was given for Mrs. James Moore and her new son, Brady, in the recreation room of the Days Creek Community Methodist Church by the Ladies Aid. A game prize was won by Mrs. Robert Wheaton.
