"nn Oregon's COP, Demo Heads Split j Over Adams Rap By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Democratic and Republican party leaders split in Oregon the past weekend over presidential , assistant Sherman Adams. The Republican state central committee supported Adams by ' refusing 21-15 to pass a motion to j censure him. 1 Adams has been under heavy fire for accepting gifts from old friend Bernard Goldfine, a million aire Boston industrialist. i An hour-long debate preceded the vote, the last major item of business as GOP leaders finished two days of pep talks at Salem I for the November election cam paign. Slate chairman James Short was re-elected unanimously. The Democratic State Central Committee censured Adams at a Portland meeting. The committee members re elected David Epps of Sweet Home as state chairman. Epps had no opposition. Other officers also were elected without opposi tion. State Rep. Beulah Hand, Mil-: waukie, was named vice chair man, and Baker County Judge Lloyd Rea was re-elected secre-1 tary. Mrs. Irma Lindquist, Au-J rora, is the new treasurer. Retiring Treasurer Dexter Fair bank, Portland, said the state Democratic treasury has I bal ance of more than $1,100. Clashing in a runoff primary aft er a bitter three-week campaign are the men who led a field of 11 in the general primary July 1. Nei ther received a majority of the votes, forcing the runoff. They aie J. Howard Edmondson, 32-year-o!d Tulsa County attornev, and W. P. (Bill) Atkinson. 52, mil lionaire developer who built his home town of Midwest City. The winner will meet Republican Phil Ferguson of Woodward and inde pendent D. A. Bryce. former FBI agent from Lawhuska, in the No vember election. Oklahoma has never elected a Republican governor. Edmondson has campaigned on a platform of reform in state gov ernment. Atkinson has promised to increase industrial activity. Both candidates have promised an ear ly referendum on repeal of the con stitution's prohibition of liquor sales. (Josef Tanker Righted; Nitric Acid Pumped BOISE. Idaho (AP) A Port land expert working with the Boise fire department succeeded late Friday in pumping nitric acid from a wrecked tanker truck safe ly into another vehicle. The eight-hour job was finished about midnight under supervision of Louis F. Larson, owner-man-acer of SI. Johns Motor Express Co. The tinker overturned where U.S. Highway 30 joins busy Capi tol Boulevard here while bound for eastern Idaho. ILs driver.
