Oregon's COP,
Demo Heads Split j
Over Adams Rap
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Democratic and Republican
party leaders split in Oregon the
past weekend over presidential ,
assistant Sherman Adams.
The Republican state central
committee supported Adams by '
refusing 21-15 to pass a motion to j
censure him. 1
Adams has been under heavy
fire for accepting gifts from old
friend Bernard Goldfine, a million
aire Boston industrialist. i
An hour-long debate preceded
the vote, the last major item of
business as GOP leaders finished
two days of pep talks at Salem I
for the November election cam
paign. Slate chairman James Short
was re-elected unanimously.
The Democratic State Central
Committee censured Adams at a
Portland meeting.
The committee members re
elected David Epps of Sweet
Home as state chairman. Epps
had no opposition. Other officers
also were elected without opposi
tion. State Rep. Beulah Hand, Mil-:
waukie, was named vice chair
man, and Baker County Judge
Lloyd Rea was re-elected secre-1
tary. Mrs. Irma Lindquist, Au-J
rora, is the new treasurer.
Retiring Treasurer Dexter Fair
bank, Portland, said the state
Democratic treasury has I bal
ance of more than $1,100.

BOISE. Idaho (AP) A Port

The eight-hour job was finished
about midnight under supervision
of Louis F. Larson, owner-man-acer

The tinker overturned where
