Mr. and Mrs. Albert Huffman left Monday for I.a Grande where they will visit Mrs. Huffman's two sisters and two brothers who live in that area. Mrs. Huffman is on vacation from her position as post office clerk. Mrs. James Carrell, her daugh ter, Olive, and Mrs. H. Bishop drove to Portland last week taking Mrs. Carrcll's sister, Barbara Woolman, and Edna Newcomb to the. bus terminal. Barbara took a hua by way of Seattle, Wn., for her home in Krnmbcrg, Mont., and Miss Newcomb left for Hanna, Utah where she will visit relatives. Mrs. Homer Knapp and five chil dren of Portland and Eugene and Kenneth Gallagher were recent vis itors at the home of their mother, Mrs. II. W. Miles and Mr. Hiles. Kenneth had just received word that his application to enter Pull man College, Walla Walla, Wash., next fall had been accepted. He is transferring from Oregon state College to complete his course as a veterinarian. Mrs. lex Hitler has returned from Portland where she attended the Rose Festival in company with Canyonville friends. Class Hes Reunion Mrs. Glenn Willis attended the 45lh reunion if her class of 1913 which was held at the University of Oregon June 14. Mr. and Mrs. Willis were returning from Port land where they had gone for the Shriners convention and Masonic Grand Lodge. W. G. Johnson, son of Mrs. George Sosic, visited at the Sosic home over the weekend. Johnson lives in Portland. STRIKE CONTINUES PORTLAND (AP) The United Steelworkcrs of America contin ued Thursday a strike against General Metalcraft Inc. It started picketing Monday night after negotiations failed to produce a contract to replace one that ran out April 1. More than 55 men are employed at the plant. St. George's Apron Workshop Wednesday St. George's Episcopal Guild will sponsor an apron workshop Wednesday at the parish hall at 10 a.m. Mrs. Dan O'Bannon.; chairman, has planned work that everyone can do. It is emphasized that any one with a pair o scissors and an idea is invited to come. No sewing will be done on the aprons at this time, but those attending should bring scissors, pins, patterns, large or small pieces of material and trimming. Those wishing to to slay through the lunch hour are asked to bring a sack lunch and Mrs. O'Bannon will furnish coffee. This is the first of several work shops to he held between now and the annual bazaar later in the year. A daughter, Mrs. Roy Byrd, Roseburg. survives as does the widow, who formerly was chief op erator for Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. in Roseburg for a number of years. Funeral services were held Tues day in Portland. ZOO GETS IN ACT CHICAGO (AP) - Brookfield Zoo is putting a new animal on display Friday in the antelope sec tion. It's a vicuna. Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Harris will he in Salem this coming weekend to participate in the bridge tourna ment. Ann Bertlett of this city was ap pointed Department of Oregon Leg islative chairman for the World War I Auxiliary at the convention held recently in Grants Pass. Mrs. Verdun Boucoek and daugh ter, Brooke, and the former'! moth er, Mrs. Anna Woffard, of this city, left Friday for Portland to spend a few days attending to busi ness. Cpt. and Mrs. Sim Koonco and children, Jeff, Diana and Krii, of Oxnard. Calif., left Thursday fol lowing a two-day visit here with Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Harris. Mrs. Jim Pemberton, former physical education, instructor at Roseburg High School, now resid ing in Anchorage, Alaska, is the houseguest of the A. W. McGuire family. Mrs. McGuire and Mrs. Pemberton recently returned from a trip to Klamath Falls where they visited with friends. Mrs. Glenn Gibbons and daugh ter. Miss Jeanie, of this city, are spending the weekend in Portland, where they will attend the tea to be given for students from the Pacific Northwest, who will enter Stephens College in Columbia, Mo this fall. Eleanor and the McCauleys are planning to leave Aug. 1 to vis it the McCauleys' son, John, who is stationed at Ellsworth Strategic Air Command Base at Rapid City, S.D. John will accompany them on a trip to Iowa during his six days leave.
