Young People's Fellowship Holds Enjoyable Picnic The High School Young People of St. George's Episcopal Church enjoyed a Sunday afternoon and evening on the North Umpqua at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Murrav. Swimming, hiking and baseball were enjoyed. Following supper a program of camp sonRs was enioved around the fire. YONCALLA TEACHERS HAVE RECEPTION ON MONDAY The annual teachers reception was held at the Yoncalla High School gym Monday evening, with members of the Yoncalla l'lA as hostesses. Individual tables scat tered around the large gym were covered with embroidered cloths, each holding a lighted taper and a large cornucopia used as a piace card for each teacher. Wayne Flynn, high school prin cipal, and William Lewellen, grade school principal, introduced each teacher. The flog salute was led by three Girl Scouts; the Rev. Austin McGhee, pastor of the Yon calla Methodist Church gave the invocation. Mrs. l'robstel, PTA president, welcomed all parents and friends of the community. Mr. Post, high school music teacher, sang "Trade Winds." accompan ied by Mrs. Pauline Lalham. Refreshments were served from a long table covered wilh a lace cloth, and lighted tapers and using a large cornucopia wilh fall fruits and veeelables as the centerpiece. Mrs. Wayne Flynn served punch and Mrs.' William Lewellen poured coffee. CHARLES DOWD GIVES BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR SON The seventh birthday of Chris Dowd was celebrated by a group of his friends Saturday afternoon with his mother. Mrs. Charles Dowd of Canyonville, as hostess. CANYONVILLE LADY LIONS SPONSOR SHOWER PARTY Mrs, Leonard Clifton was the guest of honor at a shower spon sored by the Canyonville Lady Lions at the home of Mrs. George McClane Tuesday evening. Mrs. Clifton, a past president of the organization, was presented a corsage of pink rosebuds and car nations. The 13 women present spent the evening embroidering quilt blocks for a haby quilt after which the gifts were presented to the honoree and dessert and coffee served. MRS. MOON HOSTESS TO XI EPSILON CHAPTER, BSP The first meeting of the year of Xi Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi was held at the home of Mrs. Sid Moon, president.' Guest of the evening was Mrs. Florence Powell, president of City Council, who dis cussed participation of Beta Sig ma Phi as a group in the CAA con test. Mrs. Wayne Crooch led the dis cussion regarding the program for the coming year, and it was decid ed that the chapter would study countries of the world, each mem ber choosing the country most in teresting to her. The following appointments were made: Mrs. B. DuFresne, treasur er, ways and means chairman; Mrs Walter Wright, contact chairman; Mrs. Wayne Crooch, program chair man, with Mrs. Robert Norton and Mrs. B. Country Club Women Enjoy Luncheon Meeting Women of the Roseburg Country Club met Thursday at the club house for a 12:30 o'clock luncheon, followed by the weekly bridge play. Winners were Mrs. Walter Fisher, first; Mrs. Jack Schvaneveldt, sec ond, and Mrs. L. F. Nielsen, third. The bridge refresher course plan ned for all members of the Country Club and those having taken the original bridge course at the club will be given in a series of three lessons from 11 to 12:30 Oct. 17, 24 and 31.
