Wesleyan Guild Of Canyonville Elects Officers Wesleyan Guild of the Canyon ville Methodist Church elected the following officers this week: Ha zel Cherwink, president; Geneva Hanson, vice president; and Helen Nordling, secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Rita Cam gave an account of her recent trip to England, and the guild discussed England's liv ing conditions, conditions of its churches, and socialized medicine, reports correspondent Pearl Moore. ARTHUR SELBY The Spanish group of Glide Camp Fire Girls returned recently from a three-day visit at Winchester Bay. the girls went swimming under the direction of life guard Sam Es selstion near their cabin, and cook ed all the meals. One afternoon was spent visiting the lighthouse. Members making the trip were, Donna Weaver, Sharon Singleton, Tony Clark, Yvonne Holz, Janet Anderson, Dixie Stiffler, lona Mc Cord, and Dallas Jones. Mrs. Char- he Stiffler, leader of the group, Mrs. Al Holz, and Mrs. Hugh Clark. Arrive For Summer Mrs. Wade Jones and son, Kerry, of Corvallis have arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James S. Evans to spend the summer. Sgt. Eugene Carpenter, daughter, Marilyn and son, Andy, were week end guests at the home of Carpen ter's sister, Mert Weaver and fam ily. Sgt. Carpenter, 13 years of serv ice in the U. S. Army, and his family are stationed at Fort Sill, Okla. The Carpenter's are visiting both their parents at Riddle; Mrs. Carpenter was unable to visit Glide. Mr. and mrs. John Marsh and son, Buddie, of Tacoma, Wash., were weekend guests of Mrs. Marsh's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Aletcalt. ' Mr. and Mrs. C. N. Vermillion of Springfield spent the weekend vis iting their son, C. F. Moore and family. led tvans returned Monday from Junction City, bringing back his father, W. C. Evans and brother, Marion, for a week's visit with Ev ans sons, James S. Gordon, and Ted Evans, all co-owners of the Glide Mill. Plan Camp-Out. The Glide Bluebirds, the Camp Fire Girls and the Horizon Girls will hold an all-day cleanup at the Rock Creek camp June 26. Girls wishing to camp overnight are to bring their sleeping bafs. For fur ther information, members of the group contact their leaders or chairman. Mrs. Mert Weaver at GYpsy 6-3200. Mr. and Mrs. BUlie Joe Polley and family have moved from Idle- yld Park to the Hillside cottage on the Selby place. Polley's partner in logging, Gordon Jensen, moved his trailer house to the same cot tage grounds. Surprise guests at the Ray Simp son home over the weekend were Simpson's uncle, Farrell Simpson of Sheridan, Ark., whom he had not seen for 28 years, and N anion Simpson, 43 years old of Fort Smith, Ark., whom he had never met. Namon Simpson was accom panied by his daughter, Nancy, and son Ben. Mrs. Leon Bessinger of Visalia, Calif., arrived Friday to spend the summer with her son, Mr. Ray Simpson and family. Kenneth Shrum, who finished his sophomore year at Oregon State, and Mrs. Shrum, are living in the apartment owned by the former's father, T. E. Shrum Sr. He is work ing for Douglas Co. Lumber Co. during summer vacation. Talent Show Set For Camas Valley The Camas Valley Grange will give a home talent vaudeville show June 28. The program will be open to all, and there will be no admission charge. Those attending are asked to bring sandwiches or cake. Pow ell's orchestra will play for the occasion. Ronald Ross and Russell Har wood received the first and sec ond degrees at the last meeting of the grange. The garden club voted to pay for material used in building a cabinet in the ladies lounge to store goods for community use in case of disaster. Douglas County Pomona Grange will meet in the Camas Valley Hall July 29. Mrs. Georga Ewert and Mrs. Ken Simon will be co-chairmen, and cleaning will start at 8 a.m. Those helping are asked to bring cleaning supplies and a sack lunch. The mission festival will be held August 18 al the Rod and Gun Club grounds, it was announced. Mrs. Boyles read several poems written by Mrs. Sid Moon, and Mrs. Vernon Teater gave the topic, "Per sonal Mission Work" in skit form. Azalea Crange Views School Budget Election The Azalea Grange discussed the school budget to be voted on June 28 recently.
