Saturday's results: Eugene 1-1. Roseburg 4-1. Eugene needs just an even split in their next two games to assure them of the District 5A1 base ball crown after splitting with Rose burg on Saturday, winning the sec ond game 3-1 after losing the first 4 1. Ro.teburg, which could have stay ed close in the race with a double win and one. more Eugene loss, is almost out of the race, as they need four straight wins and Eu gene needs three losses. In action around the league on Friday, the Cottage Grove team nabbed a tie for third with Spring field by taking two games from North Bend -7 and 1-0. Roseburg all the way with Bill Oerding first batter of the game for Roseburg, slamming a long tri ple to right field and then scoring when the right fielder let the ball go through him on the relay throw. Paul Hanson, the next batter was safe on an error by the second baseman followed by two straight errors by pitcher Gary Ashworth on easy grounders to the mound by Beamer and Ed LaRoque. On the second error, Hanson scored the second run of the inning. Don Wells was safe on a fielder's choice as LaRoque was out at sec ond. After Jerry Anderson had struck out for the second out, Jim Brown drove the ball deep into left field and the left fielder mis judged the ball and let it slip through his fingers and Beamer and Wells scampered home witn run number three and four of the inning. Five Errors Eugene had opened the scoring in the top of the first inning on a walk to Jim Stout and singles by Lawrence and Charlie Warren that gave them a short 1-0 lead before Roseburg broke the game open in the bottom of the first. Pitcher Ashworth for Eugene al lowed the Indians just two hits, but six errors in the field, five of them in the first inning, lost the game for him.
