Wright, st Salem and attending the basketball tournament Mon day. Tuesday, the family took a trip up tne coast highway to sea side. Black, English instructor at Glide High, drove to Portland to attend a speech association meet ing Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Smith, high school teachers, attended the three-day state tournament at Sa lem. They concluded their spring vacation, visiting Mrs. smith s par ents. Mr. and Mrs. Homer Parish at Oswego. lalvin Midd eton. high school li brarian, attending the three state basketball games at Salem, was an overnight guest two evenings at the home of Rod Hustead of Estacada. Hustead was formerly of the Glide High School faculty. Another evening, Middleton visited friends at Junction City. Thursday, he attended the library department session of the OEA convention at Portland, visiting overnight with Mr. and Mrs. C. P. McAuliffe at Troutdale, former Glide High in' structors. In 1952 and again earlier this month the survey warned the Hawauan Islands of heavy waves and no Uvea were lost. Tidal wavrs result from subms- rine earthquakes, although not all such quakes create waves. At its observatory in Honolulu the sur vey first calculates the location of. a shock. It then determines from tide observation stationa in the area whether a wave actually nas stsneo. Although the time it will srrive at distant points can be predicted, there is no wsy of determining iU height or the damage it might cause.
