Rising Water Temperature Brings Rush Of Steelheads 'TALK ABOUT INDOOR SPORTS!! Here's a drawing of New York's proposed "Olympic City," o huge enclosed arena suitable for everything from baseball to a planned four ' u""!'1 irK'00r narnes racing. The privately-sponsored proposal, approved Feb. 1 4 t by Mayor Robert Wagner, calls for on aluminum building covering about 15 city blocks 1 designed to seat 1 50,000 spectators. This drawing was prepared by Frank Grad J. Sons Urbahn Br ay tan & Burrows, associated architects. Checkers at the game commis sion's fish counting station at Win chester Dam probably wish migra ting fish would be a Utile more con siderate. After the workers had spent most of the first two weeks of February trying to stay awake, hiving vir I tually no work to keep them busy. : the fish ganged up and awept over I the bshway at the rat of nearly 1600 in the last two days of the period. Low water temperature and flows have greatly retarded the movements of winter steelheads so far in the season. Steelheads, it is reported, are very erratic in their movements. They travel in num bers only when water conditions are favorable. The winter steelhead migratioi la now the only active movement ia the river, the fall Chinook and silv er salmon migrations having been completed. Appearance of spring Chinook is anticipated In the very near future. The winter steelhead total if con siderably above average to date, despite unfavorable water condi tions. In the period from Feb. 1 to Feb. IS checkers counted 723, of which number, as previously stated, approximately 600 came on the Uth and 15th when water tem perature rose to 42 degrees.
