Miss Marrietta Munson has gone to Port Orford, where she will spend a month, with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Mun son. Mrs. R. R. League returned to her home this week from a trip to San Francisco, where she visit ed with relatives. She was accom panied home by two grandsons, Terry and Michael League, who will spend the summer here. Blake Baird was released from the hospital last Friday, where he has been since being injured in an automobile accident about four weeks ago. He returned to his home at Umpqua. Leonard Munson and son, Scot, from Port Orford, were weekend guests at Umpqua. Several children from the Ump qua Sunday School are attending Bible camp at Fir Point near Glen dale this week. The Umpqua Youth Fellowship met at the hall last week. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Amcrson and Ro berta Coffey helped with the pro gram. Refreshments were served at a late hour. Lvnn Cooper and daughter, Jan et, drove to Coos Bay where they were weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Furman. Mr. and Mrs. Reven Briggs have sold their home on Hubbard Creek near Umpqua and have moved, for the present, to a summer cabin near by. FOX Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Steach of Glendale returned Sunday eve ning after a five-day trip into East ern Oregon, across a corner of Washington into Idaho, down into Nevada and into Northern Califor nia, then home. Mr. and Mrs. John Wolleridge of Bay Center. Wash., visited with Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Wooleridge in Azalea last weekend. Tom Lang of Grants Pass, for merly a barber in Glendale. spent Sunday visiting with the Bill Ma Graths in Glendale. Lang returned several weeks ago from a two month trip to Baltimore, Md., where he visited with his son. Branch Agricultural Station Has New Head CORVALLIS I James A. B. McArthur will become superin tendent of the F.astcrn Oregon branch of the agricultural experi ment station in October, Oregon State College officials said "Wed nesday. He will succeed H. G. Avery, former Union County agricultural agent who has been superintend ent of the branch since 1945. The branch, located at Union, is a livestock experiment station. McArthur has been in charge of livestock research at a range experiment station at Manyber ries in Alberta. Canada. Avery will reach retirement age next June. WASHINGTON on The Nation al Mediation Board began talks Thursday with representatives of the West Coast Airlines and the Air Line Pilots Assn. (ALPA) in threat ened strike. Issues in the dispute include a retirement plan and a demand for a $40 a month wa?e increase. West Coast pilots receive $1,031 month ly compared to $1,075 paid by most other local service lines in the area. West Coast airlines serves 43 cities in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Sixty-five pilots are involv ed in the dispute.
