Roseburg High, which sent three men to the big show, failed to qual-1 Friday. The A-2 meet, held in conjunc tion with the A-l cinderfest at Cor vallis saw the two-man team from Douglas High, Cliff Thomson and Brent Strickland, carry the school colors into a second-place tie with Ontario. Thomson, the ace distance man of Douglas, won both of his dis tance runs, breezing to victory in the mile run with a good timing of 4:37.4, and also winning the 880 yard run in the fast time of 2:04.1. Striekland took a third in the high hurdles with a 15.3 mark and second in the lows in 20.6. Drain captured 10th place in the A-2 show, gaining 15 points along the way. Charles Huciiins was the big point-maker in the Warrior at tack, winning a second in the high hurdles in 15.4, and placing third in the lows. Jack Evans took fifth place in the javelin throw with a mark of 156-llMi. Medford, Redmond Capture Class A Cinder Crowns CORVALLIS un Medford High School scored 63 2-5 points Satur day to win Uie 30th annual Oregon high school track championship, Redmond won the A-2 meet for smaller schools with 67 3-7 points. Jim Norval of North Salem and Dave Edstrom of Sherwood were the stars of the meets. Norval won the 100 and 220?yard dashes, was anchor man on' the winning 880 yard relay team and was fifth in the broad jump in the Class A meet. Douglas County class B schools were led by the Yoncalla Eagles. The team scored 16 points as Bid Sanders placed second in the low hurdles as did Everett Swezey in the javelin throw. Eikton gained 12 points for the meet along with a blue ribbon win ner in the person of Dick Johnson, who sailed to victory in the high hurdles with a timing of 15.8. The Elk relay team of Johnson, Ronnie Moore, Dick Whitfield and Clifford Otto placed fifth. David Howell added 3 1-3 points for Days Creek during the meet with a fourth-place tie in the pole vault event, and, with a sixth place in the shot put, good two, points, by George Williams, gave the team a 5 1-3 total. Bob Thrush of Camas Valley end ed in a four-way tie for fifth place in the pole vault to score the Hor nets only points for the meet. Seattle split with last place Van couver Sunday and moved to with in 5 percentage points of the wing heavy Angels. Hollywood's seventh place Stars upended the Angels, 4-1 and 3-0. Seattle took the first game from the Mounties 6-1, then lost 8-3. San Diego thumped Sacramento, 10-5 and 3-0, while San Francisco and Portland were splitting. The Seals won 12-6 .and then lost 2-1. Ben Wade pitched the shutout against Los Angeles while Curt Raydon held them to a single run. Singles Get Runt Hollywood put the opener away in the sixth inning by scoring twice on singles by Dick Smith, Billy Majeroski and Gair Aliie and a fly by Joe Duhem. Paul Pettit doubled home three Hollywood runs in the second game after Majeroski and Ramon Me jias singled and Aliie walked. Bud Podbielan limited Vancou ver to five hits in Seattle's victory. Big blows for Seattle were Milt Smith's homer after Leo Righetti doubled in the first inning . and Bob Balcena's bases full double in the eighth, Vancouver sent 10 men to the plate in the second game's third frame and scored six times. Jim my Westlake hit a two-run single and Spider Jorgenson two-run double. Sherry Dixon and Joe Taylor hit homers for Seattle. Pd Hit Homers San Diego thumped Sacramento on the power from five home runs, by Eddie Erautt, Bob Usher, Joe Astroth, Eddie Kszak and Dick Sisler. The Pads collected 19 hits in the opener, Al Gettle Wanked the Solons in the second game, San Francisco totaled five homers in its first game, two of them by Haywood Sullivan and the others by Tom limphlctt, Don Len hardt and Bob Dipietro. Bob Alex ander held the Seals to two blows in the nightcap, a homer by Um phlett and a single by Sullivan. Saturday Hollywood beat Los Angeles, 8-5; Seattle trimmed Van couver, 5-3; Sacramento downed San Diego, 2-0 and Portland beat San Franciseo, 8-6. There are only two games Mon day, Seattle plays two at Vancouver. Duck Football Captain Chosen As 'Outstanding EUGENE W Lon Stiner, cap tain s last year's University of Oregon football team, is the win ner of the Oregon Emerald award. He was chosen Saturday as the university's outstanding senior athlete by the school's athletic department and the Daily Emer ald, the university newspaper. Indian Tennis Doubles Stopped In State Meet The Roseburg tennis doubles team of Jim Coen and Jim Powell were sidelined during slate tourney play at Corvallis slter they had copped their first two matches. Powell and Coen were beaten by the tandem of Reynolds and Hines from Klamath Falls in the quarter finals Friday at Corvallis. The Roseburg duo won matches aver Cummins and Strsngby of South Salem in its first match and defeated Dill Skaff and Bob Stu sen from Washington s Portland in its second. .
