KeFauver (D-Tenn) launched into the third day of a whirlwind Min nesota vote drive Monday, "great ly encouraged," he said, at the response he had received at eight southern Minnesota communities. "The warm and enthusiastic re ception I have received is far be yond my expectations," he added. "I have found a lot of strength I didn't expect. "If I can get to Minnesota to campaign enough, in spite of the handicaps, I think I have a chance in a number of districts." Strong Competition Facad But all face rugged competition from other nominees named Satur day night over a nationwide NBC telecast. There are no shoo-ins. Three previous Oscar winners, Spencer Tracy, James Cagney and Frank Sinatra, were nominated for the best acting performance. Tracy, a two-time winner, was named for "Bad Day at Black Rock," Cagney for "Love Me or Leave Me," and Sinatra for "The Man With the Golden Arm." Jennifer Jones ("Love is a Many Splendored Thing") and Katharine Hepburn "(Summertime") and Eleanor Parker ("Interrupted Mel ody") were the other three top actresses named. Both Miss Jones and Miss Hepburn have won Os cars before. The four other top pictures named are "Love Is a Many Splendored Thing", "Mr. Roberts", "Picnic" and "The Rose Tattoo." Christianity Born In Mid-East, Graham Reminds TOKYO Wi American evange list Billy Graham took issue Mon day with "the strange idea that Christianity is American or Brit ish or European." "It is not true," the 37-year-old Presbyterian told a news confer ence. "Christianity was born in the Middle East. Christ was not a Westerner, he could look both East and West at the same time. The church in India is 1,600 years older than America." Graham said Western missionary movements "are going to have to rethink their positions. More and more leadership is going to have to be in the hands of the local people. , . Graham, completing a trip through Asia, asserted, "I don't think a Communist could be a Christian. . . a true Communist says there is no God." He mentioned that he stopped a parade of Communists in India re cently and "as I preached to them, they dropped their clenched fists." Nc Austrian Communist paper has yet published (he sharp at tacks on Stalin's policies delivered to the Congress by Anastas I. Mi koyan, a Soviet first deputy pre mier. Radio Prague and Rude Pravo. the Czechoslovak Community Par ty paper, mentioned Mikoyan's eriticism of Stalin only very briefly- In Paris, L Humanite, French Communist Parly newspaper, car ried the story on page four with all direct references to Stalin's name deleted. ' N o n-Communist newspapers. however, played up Mikoyan's speech blasting Stalin's economic and political theories and calling for their restudy and revision. Mikoyan s speech along with similar attacks by other leaders at the congress indicate such far- reaching alterations in the Com munist line that satellite propa gandists apparently feel they need re-schooling before daring to com ment. I lie VA Saturday invited ex-GIs who have bought homes with gov ernment-guaranteed loans to pick up tree copies ot the 22-page book let, entitled "Pointers for the Vet eran Homeowner." Copies are available at all VA offices. The pamphlet tells veterans of their obligation under terms of Gl mortgages and the importance of regular payments. It counsels on how to protect their investment and how to guard against "sharp real estate practices." It also con tains advice to veteran who have trouble meeting their payments.
