Strong Competition Facad
But all face rugged competition
from other nominees named Satur
day night over a nationwide NBC
telecast. There are no shoo-ins.
Three previous Oscar winners,
Spencer Tracy, James Cagney and
Frank Sinatra, were nominated
for the best acting performance.
Tracy, a two-time winner, was
named for "Bad Day at Black
Rock," Cagney for "Love Me or
Leave Me," and Sinatra for "The
Man With the Golden Arm."
Jennifer Jones ("Love is a Many
Splendored Thing") and Katharine
Hepburn "(Summertime") and
Eleanor Parker ("Interrupted Mel
ody") were the other three top
actresses named. Both Miss Jones
and Miss Hepburn have won Os
cars before.
The four other top pictures
named are "Love Is a Many
Splendored Thing", "Mr. Roberts",
"Picnic" and "The Rose Tattoo."
Christianity
Born In Mid-East,
Graham Reminds
TOKYO Wi American evange
list Billy Graham took issue Mon
day with "the strange idea that
Christianity is American or Brit
ish or European."
"It is not true," the 37-year-old
Presbyterian told a news confer
ence. "Christianity was born in
the Middle East. Christ was not a
Westerner, he could look both
East and West at the same time.
The church in India is 1,600 years
older than America."
Graham said Western missionary
movements "are going to have to
rethink their positions. More and
more leadership is going to have
to be in the hands of the local
people. , .
Graham, completing a trip
through Asia, asserted, "I don't
think a Communist could be a
Christian. . . a true Communist
says there is no God."
He mentioned that he stopped a
parade of Communists in India re
cently and "as I preached to
them, they dropped their clenched
fists."
JLilFE'S GREATEST BLESSINGS
Good health and good sense are often referred to as
life's greatest blessings. The degree of health and sense
enjoyed is largely dependent upon the individual. The
mind can be improved through application. Health is
influenced by habits such as adequate sleep, balanced
diet, and regular exercise. Only with good health and
good sense can the fullness of life be enjoyed. A vigilant
guardian of health is your physician. He stands ready
to serve day or night. We stand ready to compound
your prescriptions whenever medicine is prescribed.
