Wi Bascom Giles, former state land commis sioner who once cautioned vet erans to be careful in buying land under the state's 100-miUion-dolIar Gl aid program, pleaded guilty again Tuesday to wrongdoing as administrator of that program. Waiving his rights to trial by jury, Giles listened grimly as Judge Charles O. Betts sentenced him to six years imprisonment in each of nine convictions of being an accomplice to felony theft. Total amount involved in the nine cases was $58,875. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently with previous six year penalties assessed in Bexar and Zavala Counties for agreeing to accept a bribe. t "i A Hill MISSIONARY SPEAKER A three-day missionary rally, beginning Sunday night at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in the labor Temple, Will feature the Rev. Back In Rottburg Bill Lynch arrived in Koseburg this week fol lowing a vacation spent in the Midwest and Southwest. Lynch left Dec. 21. He visited his parents, the Kev. and Mrs. J. IL Lynch, who live near Springfield, Mo. Later, j he flew to Dallas. Tex., Phoenix, j Ariz., and Palm Springs, Calif. He made the trip by plane. To Washington Mr. and Mrs. William Brady and Mrs, Montie McCready were recent visitors in Port Angeles, Wash. They made the trip to see Mrs. Nan Eccles who is confined in the Port Angel es Hospital after a recent automo bile accident in which Mrs. Eccles suffered serious injuries. The lat ter is the mother of Brady and Mrs. McCready. Morrfs Family Homo Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Morns and daughter, Carolyn, have returned to their home in Roseburg, following a trip through California and the South ern states to New Orleans to spend a month visiting Mrs. Morris fam ily. Ken wick and daughters, Charlotte and Judy, have returned from a two-week vacation spent in Hawthorne, Calif., visiting at the home of Mrs. fenwick's brother, George Berry, and family. Now Son Word has been re ceived here of the birth of a son, : Steven James, weighing 7 pounds 8 ounces, to Dr. and Mrs. Harry Thomas of Portland. Mrs. Thomas! is the former Peggy Ann Knight,' daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde E. : Knight, formerly of Roseburg, now living in Medford. Mrs. Thomas was graduated from Roseburg i High School in 1951. Floyd Carter have returned to Roseburg, following a trip to Hay ward, Calif., where they spent the holidays visiting their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Arth ur Parton and children, Beverly and Steve, who recently moved into their new home at Palma Cia Village.
