Increases In Deposits, Loans Banks In the county showed healthy increases with reports of itatements of conditions June 30. Here in central Douglas County the three-branch Douglas County State Bank showed deposit in creases of $6,052,639.49 since June 30 year ago. At the same time, the United States National Bank in Hoseburg reported a I5-per cent increase over the state. The Douglas County State Bank reported deposits of $23,202,332.25. The Roseburg branch of the Unit ed States National reported de posits of $20,074,189.02. Schmeer, showed an "ap preciable gain." He said total loans and discounts for the branch ag gregated $6,300,236.62. The proposed agreement will be discussed Aug. 6 at the organiza ton's annual meeting in Portland. Also to be discussed then are plans for acreage controls without federal subsidies. This was decided recently at a meeting of the organization's exec utive committee. Delegates from California, Idaho, Washington and Oregon attended. The committee decided to urce formation of a strong national organizaton to protect the indus- iry s inicresis, George H. Gannon of Mabton, Wash., chairman of the committee, said the 1855 hop crop would be about 180,000 bales, compared with lasi year s 218,000. ile said tne decrease was due to acreage reductions. In response, they got a hearty "thank vou" and a wide noncomittal smile. On this third anniversary of his nomination for the presidency. Eisenhower received a petition from the GOP group which said in part: "In the atomic age, when one lauiiy decision could prove dis astrous, it is vital that our nation be led by a man of great ex perience in the international field and one who possesses patience, firmness, understanding and cour age. The 54 signers are House GOP members who were elected when Eisenhower was in 1952 or since that lime. They chose Reps. Fr linghuysen Jr. of New Jersey, Curtis of Massachusetts and Avery of Kansas to present the second term petition to Eisenhower. The President chuckled heartily as he read the statement, but the three House members confirmed later that he made no commit ment regarding a second term. The CIO United Steelworkers scheduled its first bargaining ses sion today. The AFL aluminum workers will start wage talks Thursday.
