12 Th Nwi-Rtvitw, Reitburg, Lumber Truck, Car Collide At Lone Rock Covered Bridge By MRS. ARTHUR SCLBY A collision between a loaded lumber truck and a sedan Tues day at 11:30 a.m., at Me Lone Rock covered bridge, . resulted in ' heavy damages to the car driven by Mrs. Mike Mullin. The uew Lone Rock bridge has been closed for over two weeks for painLng. Mrs. Mullin accompanied by her mother, Mrs. George Heal, was making the turn onto tne bridge at the south end, as tne lumber truck owned by E. L. taris and driving by John Zenor, was coming out of the entrance. Mrs. Mullin applied the brakes but the car skidded in the soft gravei directly into the truck. There were no in juries. Return Home ' Mr. and Mrs. Keith Ireland left Saturday for Vancouver Wash., to spend the weekend visiting Mrs. Ireland's sister, Mrs. Margy Cud 1 more. They returned 'o Salem Memorial Day to visit the City View Cemetery, arriving home Monday night. Mr. and Mrs. .Tohny Johnson, accompanied by Kenny Moss, mot ored Friday to Fish Lake near Hertford, to spend the holidays camping and fishing. They all had good catches of rainbow trout. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Steenon and daughters, Nancy and Susan, of Coos Bay, spent tin holiday weekend visiting Steenon'a broth er and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. I)an Steenon on Little Rivor Road. The family motored Sunday to Dia mond Lake and reported the lake frozen over. Mrs. DeShields nas been acting as substitute teacher at the Glide grade school the oast year and has accepted a contract to teach the sixth grade tne coming school year. Clifford Barclay, four-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray (Skeets) Barclay, is confined to ius home with yellow jaundice, ordered by the lamiiy pnysician to remain if bed for two weeks. Hit iive-year- old sister, Kathleen, wai lelensed Monday from Douglas Community Hospital in a cast, havin suffered a fractured left shoulder. Clifford suffered a broken left foot in Jan uary which was in a cast for six weeks. The father, "Skeels" Bar clay was confined in the hospital for two weeks suffering from yel low jaundice. and Eugene on business and visit ing relatives. The Winchester School held its picnic at Umpqua Park, Wednesday with about 200 children and parents in attendance. Their third, fifth and six'n grades of Wilbur school went to the Veter an s grounds Thurs. for a day of recreation and picnics. Wilbur first and second graders had a picnic Thursday on the sohool mounds- Ice cream was fur nished to the latter group by the Wilbur Community Club. Visits Mrs. J. R. Welty of McCleary. Wash., spent the Memorial Day weekend visiting at the home of her son, F. E. Welty and family. Monday Mr. and Mrs. Welty and children accompanied the visitor to Salem, where they visited her son-in-law and oaugmer, Mr. ana Mrs. J. C- Raphael. Weekend guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sands were Mrs. Merie Snooks, cousin of Mrs. Sands, and Mrs. Erma Kleinhans of Portland. Mrs. Snooks, who for merly resided in Wilbur, is plan ning to leave in about a month for a three or four mon'!; tour of Europe. Mrs. Arana is a sister of Boni Yraeuen- Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Clark of Roseburg were visitors Monday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Hansen. Mrs. Harvey Moore received word last week from Mrs. Mattie McKay who recently moved from Wilbur. Mrs. McKay stated that she is now residing with a sister on a ranch near Pendleton. Serviceman Visits Family At Riddle By ERMA BEST AD1 James Nichols and family have arrived in Riddle for a visit with his parents, Mr. nid Mrs. Stilley Nichols, and Mrs. Nichols' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ham lin. Nichols has recently been trans ferred from Escondido to the Ala meda Naval Base, and is on a 30 day leave. The two older children, Ilex and Ira, will spend tne sum mer with their grandparents. The daughters, Susan and L'i.eici, will return homo with their parents. Mr, and Mrs. Russell Weimer have announced tho arrival of their first grandchild, a daughter, Keven Anne, born May 28 to their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Dehlmger of Klamath Falls. Mrs. John Carter and grand daughter. Miss Darrelleno Carter, left Friday by plane from Medford for San Carlos, Calif, wliere they will visit Mrs. J. C. Dutton, daugh ter and aunt, respectively. Miss Carter will go on to Flagstaff, Ariz., for a short visit at liie home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brown, former Riddle residents. From there she will fly to Chicago to enroll on June 20 in a special mu sic course. The Rev. Conrad Rhoads Is spending three weeks in Berkeley, Calif., attending the town and country school for pasture at the Berkeley Divinity Center Guest speakers will supnly the uulpit of the Riddle First Baptist during his absence. Shakespearean Festival Rehearsals Started Work on the 1955 Oregon Shake spearean Festival started Saturday in Ashland. The season begins Aug. 1 and concludes Aug. 31. Auditions for roles in the five plays slated for production will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wed nesday. The season's repertoire in eludes two comedies. "A Midsum mers Night's Dream" and "All's Well That Ends Well;" a tragedy, "Macbeth." and a historical play. "Henry vr, Part 3." In addition two" performances of the rarely performed tragedy, Ti mon of Athens," will be presented. The plays will be shown in a night ly rotation.
