V Riversdale School Loses Ball Game . By BEVERLY CHRISTIAN The Riversdale School hosted the Umpqua School Baseball team Tuesday afternoon, when the two teams met for a baseball game. The Umpqua team won with a score of 35-21. . The Umpqua team is com posed of fourth, and fifth graders and the Riversdale team is larg ely third and fourth graders. W. R. Casebeer was umpire. The Umpqua team was accom panied by the teacher Mrs. Thomp son and Mrs. G. W. Munson, ..bus driver. Visit Friends Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rothrock and two sons of Sinoma, Calif., vis ited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Dick Stark and other friends on Fisher Road. They formerly re sided here and still own a home on Fisher Road. Mrs. Walter Bailey returned to her home Monday after spending two weeks in Astoria assisting in the care of her new grandson born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barr on May 2. The Barrs have two other sons. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Burkhart and son, Keith, and Mrs. Burk hart's mother, Mrs. Thrush, of Eugenei visited Friday with Mr. and Mrs. John Burkhart. Taylor Admits Japanese Police Record TOKYO Wl Gen. Maxwell D. Tavlor, nominated as U. S. Army chief of staff, laughingly "con fessed" Wednesday he had a Jap anese police record. He told reporters that when he arrived in Jaoan 20 years aco as a young military attache he declared a .38 caliber revolver and 36 rounds of ammunition. This was duly re corded by the Imperial Japanese Costoms on manifold forms, but the figures were transposed. A month later a police inspector came to check on Taylor's arma ment and found the revolver with the 36 bullets. "Where are the other two shells?" he demanded. At the police station Taylor was told either to produce those otiier two bullets or two bodies that would account for their use, he said. It took three trips to the station to straighten it out. the latter's grandparents Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Sanders on Curry Road. New Residence Mr. and Mrs. Bill Madson and son, Mike, have moved from Rose burg into the house vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Carter and four sons when they moved into their new home. Mrs. Al Sanders is vacationing this week from her work in the mail order department at Mont gomery Ward. Fellows, president of the National Assn. of Radio arfd Television Broadcasters, contended Wednes day his industry has been singled out for "flattering but unwelcome attention" by Congress while news paners have been ignored. In his renort to the organization's annual convention. Fellows cited among other examoles of a recent bill introduced in the Senate which would require political candidates to reveal whether they use make im and prompting devices on tele vision. Fellows said one would logically assume that the bill's sponsor, Sen. Neubcrger (D-Ore), "would under take a companion measure requir ing the less fastidious office seek ers to announce that they had combed their hair before posing for the press. But no such thought apparently entered the senator's mind." Washington Man Visits Mother In Sutherlin By MRS. BRITTAIN SLACK Mr. and Mrs. H. V. Church, had as their house guest, their son, Vernon Church, from Richland. Wash., last week. Vernon returned to his home Saturday. His mother accompanied him to spend the weekend visiting with two other sons, Wayne and Boyd, and their families. She returned to Suther lin Sunday night. Confined Mrs. Herbert Parker was con fined to her home for several days with tonsilitis. Mrs. Wilson Swift and Mrs. Ray Parker, returned home the first of t)he week, after an enjoyable trip to Salem, where they visited with relatives. Albert Karcher, of Reedsport, spent the weekend in Sutherlin with his family. Mrs. Mary Barker, Mrs. Olga Rielman, Mrs. Agnes Stout, Mrs. Maggie Francis and Mrs. Viva Engle, attended the Rebckah As sembly of Oregon, at La Grande. Mrs. Bielman and Mrs. Stout, were delegates from the Sutherlin Rebekah Lodge. Mrs. Maggie Francis was elected district dep uty. Mrs. Mary Barker, had the honor of being elected, warden of the Rebakah Assembly of Oregon Wednesday, a great honor to the Sutherlin Lodge. Mrs. Charles Wahl, received a letter from her daughter, Rose marie Jones who now lives at McMinnville, that her children were all ill with the chicken pox. Mrs. Jones and family lived in Sutherlin until recently. Mrs. Charles Wahl and Daugh ter, Ellen, spent the last weekend at Fort Rock, Ore., with Mr. Wahl, who is employed. in doing carpen ter work. New Dairy Started In Canyonvitle Area By VIRGINIA PROCTOR The Church brothers. Bob and Jim, of Ravenswood Ranch north of Canyonville, will begin deliver ing milk from their new Ravens wood Dairy to Canyonville and Riddle 'in about 30 days, they an nounced. House to house delivery of- both raw and pastuerized whole milk from high test Guernsey cows will be made regularly by the Churoh brothers, well known ranchers in the area. Their new dairy has complete ly modern equipment and state inspected cows, tested and vaccin ated. Union Meets Lumber and Sawmill workers, AF of L, held their regular month ly meeting at the Masonic hall in Canyonville. Nominations for officers for the coming two-year term were made. Election of officers is scheduled for the nexfmeeting, June 19. The local union also cast 111 vote for Northwest Council offic ials at this meeting. Presents Awards Canyonville high school student body voted to present the coveted Babe Ktitti awards to jeraldine Bryson and Jerry McKennie. Mrs. Jim Sproul and sons, Guy and Jimmie, of Canyon City, are visiting Mrs. Sproul's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Hoverson. The Hovcrsons picked them up at Bend Sunday. They are expected to stay about two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Don Bloss have moved from Kansas Ci'.y to Can yonville and are living in the Moore apartments. Mrs. Bloss, who is Carl Moddie's niece, is employed at the South Umpqua State Bank. Mrs. Evelyn .Carlisle of Chic ago is visiting her daughter and family, the Bob Bryants. Honored Webster Briggi wai honored at a family birthday dinner Monday evening at the home of his par ents. Mr. and Mrs. E. Briggs. Air. and Mrs. Ab Ma thews of Riddle also attended. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Akey and children will move to the hou.se vacated by the Lutz family at Camas Valley, where Akey will be superintendent of schools. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Barnett of Camas Vol ley will move to the Cota ranch being vacated by the Akey fam ily. Barnett will be the elemen tary principal at Oakland next year. To Eugene Mrs. Charles Beahm, Mrs. Dave Rice and Mrs. Doug Beahm and baby drove to Eugene Thursday where Mrs. Doug Beahm took the bus for Price, Utah, where her husband is employed. Mr. and Mrs. Thedford Caulder and daughter of Bryan, Texas, are visiting Mrs. Caulder's father, James Bovingdon. Mrs. Caulder is the former Pauline Bovingdon. Mr. and Mrs. Joy Gray and daughter of San Leandro, Calif., visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Nimocks. They were former neighbors on South Deer Creek. Wishes Visitors "Aunt" Mary Binbridge, who has been in the hospital,, is now at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Spencer. She will welcome visitors. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Akey and Miss Joanne Permazzi will leave soon for Guadala.iaro, Mex,, where Akey and Miss Permazzi will at tend the summer session of the college. Miss Permazzi is an Oak land grade school teacher. Akev will be superintendent, at Camas Valley next year. They expect to visit Mexico City before they re turn. Jerry Akey will spend the summer with Mrs. Akey's mother in Idaho. Cliff and Lynn Akey will stay with Akey's parents at Bremerton, wasn. William G. FOX Eighty-two members and adult sponsors of the 4-H Forestry Club from Douglas, - Jackson, and Jo sephine Counties camped out Fri day and Saturday of last week, on the Wilton Garrett ranch up Quines Creek north of Glendale. The group was supervised by Frank von Borstel,. 4-d lcadar, and Ed Gildcn, county extension forester, both of Douglas County. Ells worth (R-Ore) to build Cougar and Green Peter-Whitebridge dams in Oregon. Sloan, seventh-grade son of Ralph Sloan of Glo.idale, re ceived a mild concussion Tuesday afternoon, when struck in the head by a ball while playing ball with other youngsters at his home.
